About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

World-renowned relationships experts Dr John Gottman and Dr Julie Schwartz Gottman bring decades of their ground-breaking research on the science of love to the urgent and timely topic of conflict.

Conflict is the number one reason that couples seek help and resources. Fight Right will teach you how to avoid the five critical mistakes that couples often make during conflict, and instead, teach you how to 'fight right' and use conflict as an opportunity for greater intimacy, deeper connection, and lasting love.

Using decades of research, compelling case studies and a new international study, the Gottmans prove that even couples who are truly struggling in conflict and have really lost their way are able to recover and find their way back to each other. For those couples in crisis, or those who want to change their relationship dynamic, Fight Right is the go-to guide to understanding how to fight better, offering urgent and perennial lessons for healthy conflict.

Critic reviews

"John and Julie Gottman, with their decades of experience working intimately with couples, know that the road to finding your purpose and fulfilling your dreams is often through conflict. If we don't learn how to do conflict well, we're going to be stuck, disconnected, and unfulfilled. Couples today really need clear, compassionate, and science-based guidance in this arena, and as the world's leading love experts, the Gottmans are the trusted voice to guide them." (Jay Shetty, author of the #1 New York Times bestseller Think Like a Monk)

I love the multiple recaps from different point of views and angles because this way it is easy
to remember the right steps for comflict resolution. It actually teaches you step by step how to solve conflicts not only in romantic relationships but in any other relationship. A Masterclass in communication! This should be taught is schools!

I would summarize it as "How to save relationships by working on how you behave and understand each other around conflict". Eye-opening in a lot of ways. Very couples-oriented - I can imagine only few techniques would work in other contexts (like friendships or work relationships). Makes a big assumption that both of the people involved want and are able to work on the relationships and themselves, since the techniques require a lot of honesty and effort. It is unclear to me if using it as a workbook would be enough or if the troubled couple would still need a couple's therapist.
