But pulling off the Collars can cause Shifters to go mad or kill them outright. In Austin, Jace meets Deni Rowe, a wolf Shifter with troubles of her own-she was deliberately run down in the road, and while her body has healed, she still has episodes of total memory loss during which she retreats into her pure animal self.

Jace has never met anyone like Deni. Courageous and beautiful, she volunteers to help him test the Collar removal. And as Deni and Jace work together, they feel the mate bond begin. But can Jace help Deni believe she can heal enough to be anyone's true mate?

3.5 GOOD YES.... BUT SADLY NOT GREAT

Unfortunately JA has set the bar very high with her other Shifters Unbound books and, whilst this is a good listen, I've heard better. However, for any fan of the series, then this has got to be a must have as it moves the 'collar removal problem' on to the next level whilst incorporating another mating and sets the scene for the next book.

Jace, a snow leopard, is from the Las Vegas Shiftertown and has volunteered to go to the Austin pack in the hopes of finding out how to remove the hated collars and so they start the risky process with his. But as soon as he's there he meets Deni, a damaged wolf shifter, things immediately heat up and they both quickly feel the tug of the mate bond and their love heals each other.

There was a constant Police threat as they became very suspicious, there was a bit of tension from Pack mates, sex, and a drama near the end but I'm sorry to say that I just didn't really feel the chemistry (sexual or otherwise) between Jace and Deni and because of that their romance felt a little flat.

Worth a credit? If you eagerly follow a series you really don't want to miss out on any of the books so YES (and the cover picture is yummy). However, I wish JA had built the story up and made it a full length listen because at $17.63 for just 4.43 hrs it makes these Novellas enjoyable but costly listens.

Very Good Novella, but Costly

This is a great novella, and interestingly enough, it actually advances the progress in one of the major story line arcs. While most authors that I read offer novellas in their series, you can usually feel free to miss them, since they are generally hook ups for side characters and don't advance the plot much, if at all.

We've met Deni and Jace in previous books. She's the wolf shifter who had a bad motorcycle accident that left her having spells where she goes feral and attacks everyone around her. Jace is the son of the leader of the Nevada shifter town, and he's came to Texas to help the leaders of Deni's shifter town, who are trying to find a way to remove shifter's collars.

Jace meets Deni and sparks fly right off the bat. Their chemistry is very good, and Jace's presence calms Deni's feral beast. I do wish the author had explored Deni's problems a little more, perhaps made them more of an obstacle than what they were. I love imperfect characters, and her's has been a favorite of mine. Unfortunately, while it is brought up, and some of Jace's efforts to calm her are mentioned, it's all a bit glossed over for my taste, and thus the 4 stars instead of 5.

The other thing I'm not pleased with is the price of this book. This was a novella priced as a full length book, and that seemed a bit much to me. I did spend a credit on this, but I did it grudgingly and with the feeling I was being robbed spending a precious credit on such a short book. Audible, you can do better than that!!!

Cris Dukehart's narration was close to perfect. She has a pleasant reading voice, and does a marvelous job with accents and both male and female voices.

So glad Jace fond Deni!

What made the experience of listening to Feral Heat the most enjoyable?

Jace and Deni are two characters that have been mentioned in the past books of the series. I would never of thought the author would pair them together but I am glad she did. I am still intrigued at the segregation of the shifters, and the lopsided laws not allowing them to have modern technology etc. This is paradigm makes this series that has great sex scenes, largely due to their animal nature and really interesting characters.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jace and Ellison cracked me up.

Have you listened to any of Cris Dukehart’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Great narrator.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Call of the Wild!

Very entertaining.

Wow! I just love this series. Jace and Deni are a great couple. Jace is from the Vegas shifter town visiting the Austin shifter town when he meets Deni, a shifter on the verge of going Feral. Deni was injured in a motorcycle v. car hit-n-run. Now, she has moments of forgetting who she is and attacks anyone who gets too close. Jace shows up with a remarkable ability to ground Deni, to bring her back to herself. I truly enjoyed their story. I can't wait to read more. The narrator also did a great job giving each character more life. Well done to both the author and the narrator

Let it be done!

Well... Jaysus. I loved this book! Jace and Deni have both found their other half. Deni and Jace are both characters that I have loved since they were first introduced!

There was a fight for sanity at times but one thing is for sure, no two shifters have ever been more right for each other. They’re both two pieces of one pie. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for them next!

Jace Wardens

Feral Heat: Jaces story. Jace is from Las Vegas Shiftertown, he comes to shiftertown Austin to help work progression on the removal of the collars. he finds His mate in Deni Austin a shifter that was run down while out riding he motorbike. this short story is still a very intense experience for the listener, JA did not disappoint.
