Summary

Her powers can make the elements change...but Elena will never change how the Fae see her.

Half-breed. The lowest of low. Halven, the forbidden offspring produced by the mating of a Fae and a human.

The only thing Fae despise more than Halven—well, nothing.

When a deadly virus sweeps their world, killing immortal Fae, a secret about a royal bloodline is revealed.

The half-breed holds the key to their survival.

And on her 18th birthday, Elena discovers a world of warring Faery kingdoms and her fateful place in it...among her enemies.

If only she could unlock her powers.

With no one to trust, she turns to the beautiful, brilliant boy next door. But Derek has secrets of his own.

He’s a half-breed like her. And his father is the cruel king who wants Elena dead. At all costs.

The last in line of a powerful Fae, she refuses to use her magic for those who hate her. But when she discovers her mother is still alive, she'll do whatever it takes to earn her mother’s freedom.

Even agree to help the enemy.

Good background listening

A fair enough story, enough to keep you interested without switching off. If you're into the genre then give it a whirl. I've certainly listened to worse.

Fantasy for young adults and older fantasy fans

I liked this audiobook because it is well written and performed . I don't give five stars unless the story is a masterpiece . Fantasy allows us leave our day to day life and dream.

overall fantastic book

I struggled to listen the first time through but second time I couldn't put it down fantastic story and the narrating was really well done, a few words pronounced oddly for both English and American dialects

Would not recommend

The performer Lydia Sanders is wonderful to listen too. I found the story, however quite disturbing. The author goes very lightly over themes like discrimination, genocide and nearly-rape. Just because it's a guy who is being forced sexually doesn't mean it is less bad. The author brushed all these themes off lightly. For me the book can appeal for a mindless listen, but is definately not recommended. Teen listeners might get the impression it's ok to minimalize these impotant issues.
