Summary

A lump of concrete dropped deliberately from a little stone bridge kills the wrong person. The young woman in the car behind is spared. But only for a while... A few weeks later, George Marshalson lives every father's worst nightmare: he discovers the murdered body of his eighteen-year-old daughter on the side of the road. Wexford steps into the case but soon a second teenage girl is murdered - a victim unquestionably linked to the first - and another family is shattered...

A good read !

As always Ruth Rendell gives us an Inspector Wexford we can believe in, a great story line with a twist at the end. The narrator is excellent with accents and different voices for the characters. I’ve enjoyed listening to this book.

Enjoyable story with several twists to keep you guessing

A well read Wexford investigation with enough of a plot to keep you involved to the end - recommended

brilliant.

I cant believe that Ruth wrote this in 2005. it is so relevant to today. her observation of human characteristics is brilliant.

Better than some of Rendell's books

The narrator is now voicing Wexford in an expected style: gruff with a distinct accent. The story line was good. There was a dramatic finale. But Wexford's summing up was far too long. Rendell has an annoying tendency to engage in poetic description; she appears to be obsessed by weather.

Anthony is excellent

A fantastic narration by Anthony .. Ruth Randell is a great crime writer .. but it’s quite amusing how her snobbish travels through the story, talking about PC views but one thinks rather wishing everyone knew their place .. it’s a slightly long winded story .. less pace than others ..

Murder mystery that kept you guessing right to the end.

Brilliant story line well read. Sounds very much like inspector Wexford of TV series. Quite gripping

Good listen, all a bit unlikely!

Didn't set my soul on fire, but definitely did a bit more than merely pass the time. If you like Wexford, you'll enjoy this one.
