Summary
Enter the world of the hidden folk - and discover the most whimsical, enchanting and heart-warming tale you'll listen to this year, featuring the intrepid Emily Wilde...
Emily Wilde is good at many things: she is the foremost expert on the study of faeries; she is a genius scholar and a meticulous researcher who is writing the world's first encyclopaedia of faerie lore. But Emily Wilde is not good at people.
So when she arrives in the hardscrabble village of Hrafnsvik, Emily has no intention of befriending the gruff townsfolk. Nor does she care to spend time with another new arrival: her dashing and insufferably handsome academic rival Wendell Bambleby.
But as Emily gets closer to uncovering the secrets of the Hidden Ones - the most elusive of all faeries - she also finds herself on the trail of another mystery: who is Wendell Bambleby, and what does he really want? To find the answer, she'll have to unlock the greatest mystery of all - her own heart.
Critic reviews
"A darkly gorgeous fantasy that sparkles with snow and magic, this book wholly enchanted me." (Sangu Mandanna, author of The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches)
"Forget dark academia: give me instead this kind of winter-sunshined, sharp-tongued and footnoted academia, full of field trips and grumpy romance." (Freya Marske, author of A Marvellous Light)
"Enchanting in every sense of the word... This book is real magic." (H. G. Parry, author of The Unlikely Escape of Uriah Heep)

Thoroughly Enjoyed This - Pure Magic!
A little slow to start but what a ride! This is so utterly charming. It's a fantastic whirlwind of a story with fairy stories retold too. Narrators are excellent. I am dying for the next.

Obsessed
I live in Cambridge so this was both familiar and magical. I absolutely loved the story and the little mini stories about faeries. And I am completely obsessed with Wendle. The performances were great, exactly how I would picture each character. I really do hope there is a sequel.

Like a warm hug
This was a lovely whimsical read. A relatively low stakes, low angst trip through Faerie & I throughly enjoyed it. I’m not on the edge of my seat waiting for the next instalment, but will definitely be getting the next book when it comes out. More the feeling of wanting to revisit friends than dangling from the edge of a cliff.

An original funny and beautiful story
This book is wonderful. I have never read anything like it. The faeries have such quirky and dream like characteristics and the story is such a lovely divergence from a lot of the faerie books I have come across lately. Some parts are so funny and other parts so interesting. I would love to read more just like it. The Narrator is brilliant.
