Brilliant introduction to the series

This is the first book of Sarah's I have read/listened to so wasn't sure what to expect. I am glad I took a punt on it as it is a brilliant introduction to what looks like an excellent series.

The story follows a boy called Tor who is a bit of a rogue, until he gets himself mixed up with a man who takes him on an adventure. During this adventure he ends up saving a dragon's life and together they are sent on a possible suicide mission to save a young girl from some evil people. The book kind of ends abruptly, but this just means that I am now desparate to listen to the next one in the series.

This one falls in the good category for me

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This book is pretty good. I had a couple of complaints, but none that prevented me from finishing the book or enough to push me into disliking it. So, I enjoyed the dialog and the story. I think it was imaginative and fun, if a little short. My first complaint is on the audio quality. It is clear, but a little bit too much echo. Also, the narrator's female voices are a bit silly and the same. Overall, he is FAR from the worst I've ever heard, and I would still be willing to listen to another book he reads. All in all, I still considered this a good book and a positive listening experience.

Totally engrossing

Right to the action, great story. Enough background and discovery peppered in through the story to me from asking so many questions that I'd lose the story. Action, humor, distinguishable characters that I care about instead of forgetting or dismissing. Excited to go through the series! Great portrayal Sean!

Another promising series...

Tor, a teenager living on the streets after watching his city nearly burn to the ground during the war, is recruited by Hubric to be part of a spy ring to find information for the new Dominar. Not exactly what Tor had expected of the promises made months earlier of becoming a dragon rider,, but the Magika are on the move... Tor has his doubts of becoming a dragon rider after experiencing the thrill and terror of riding with Hubric, but ends up with a dragon of his own: Saboraak, the first female dragon bonded to a human. Tor and Hubric are twice kept from reaching supplies, and find that the young girl Zara, Hubric's other spy in the making, has been captured, and it is up to Tor and Saboraak to rescue her while Hubric reports back to the Dominar. This book continues the story started in the Dragon School series, but with new characters in the lead, and as many (or more) twists and turns as the Dragon School series.

Very short, clean, fantasy adventure

I am really enjoying this series. The narrator's deep voice for the main female character was a bit startling at first (it it deeper than the voice he uses for the main male character) but I got used to it. I love how through the whole story the hero constantly says "I'm no hero." It is a clean, lighthearted fantasy adventure. I think my teenager would also enjoy listening to this series. The books are around 2 hours each, and cliffhangers. There is no conclusion / closure to the plot until the end of the series, although a few minor sub plots have conclusion. Personally I would have preferred a single long book instead of a dozen mini books.

Very Entertaining

This was really entertaining. The story was great and I interested in the characters. Tor had great reactions but the star for me was Saboraak. She's sassy and funny, I adored her. I'm looking forward to the next one.

The narration is good except for the female voices.

Very entertaining...

Great story line. It caught my attention right from the start. I really liked the way Your and Sabre Rock paired up. I'm still trying to figure out the guys with swirly eyes, though. Definitely looking forward to the next book in the series.

A Dragon's Tale. Not quite what you expected.

An excellent short listen. Glad there will be more of these. Loved the character building. Also enjoyed the character's attitudes and their interactions.

Different style of Fantasy that peaked my interest

Like many fantasy sagas this one starts out slow and focuses on its world building, rule establishments, and character introductions and that's exactly why I liked it. Just the right amount of exposition and action to keep a reader interested while creating the beginning of a new story. You can tell the engine is only starting to warm up with this story and I'm excited to see where its characters and direction are going. You can do a lot with dragons in fantasy stories and this author definitely thought of a new and unique way to describe them that I never thought of before. Along with the narrator's ominous and hypnotizing voice, this was an adventure I didn't expect much from, but got more than what I thought I would get and I'm ready to see where the story goes in the sequel.
