Summary

Meet Sukey Reynolds: proud mother, wonderful cook...and police photographer turned amateur detective.

Years ago, Sukey was hoping to become a detective, but life took a different turn. Now she’s happy to be involved with the local police force, as long as she still gets to work the occasional murder case....

When Sukey arrives to photograph the body of Lorraine Chant, the beautiful wife of a wealthy businessman, she’s baffled. At first, it looks like a botched burglary, as the huge family safe has been left wide open and empty. But why does Lorraine’s rich husband claim nothing was taken? And what is he not telling the police?

Deciding to do a little investigating of her own, things take a darker turn for Sukey when she is set upon by a shady figure. What do they think she knows? As Sukey finds herself in the firing line, can she expose the true killer before it’s too late?

If you love murder mysteries by Agatha Christie, Faith Martin, or Joy Ellis, then this novel from the best-selling queen of cozy crime will have you hooked!

Another great cosy crime gem from Betty Rowlands

After finishing the Melissa Craig series from Betty Rowlands I was thrilled to see there was another series to get started on. It’s the perfect mix of crime, personal story, warmth from the protagonist, and everything being wrapped up nicely in the end. Would recommend giving this a go if you’re a fan of this genre.

Great story line and outstanding narration

I really enjoyed this book. Well thought out plot lines and a few twists and turns to keep the reader on their toes. Audio books can be completely ruined by poor narration skills, but the narrator for this was outstanding. Looking forward to the next one.

Finger of suspicion?

A good complicated mystery that real police would solve in no time whatsoever. Having taken Terry's fingerprints when his van was stolen, it would be an easy job to check the National Data Base and determine that he had form, certainly in far less time that this novel suggests.

A cozy ish read

This was pleasingly worth a credit. The story, although one of those that usually befits a murder mystery, is easy to follow and the narrator does a good job, although if you're expecting it to be all nicey nicey, she does utter an expletive or two during the tale!

An easy bedtime listen

Not the most complicated of books, however it has a great storyline with a few little nice twists and turns but never gets overly tense. Good characters and easy to follow and keep up with. Very nicely narrated and a perfect choice to read a cosy murder mystery to unwind to. A nice clean ending and look forward to listening to the next in the series.. Overall easy listening, easy to follow and no over dramatics.. 👍🏻

Not my idea of cosy!

Swearing, violence and a fair bit of sexual stuff makes this less than cosy. It’s not bad it just isn’t that nice either, and by chapter five I was tired of hearing about women’s breasts. Didn’t bother finishing it.

Easy, light read, well constructed plot.

I wasn’t feeling too well so really wanted an easy but captivating read. This book fit the bill well. The story line & plot were well constructed. the story held my interest without being too “clever” or deep- but at the same time was s good page turner.

Shame about the narrator

I love a good murder mystery but the narration just made keeping focus very difficult. Shame as only managed to stick with it til chapter 12. Although the story I think could be good.
