Summary
Like a brick at a birthday cake.
Shoreham Port in Brighton, England, has been secured by Adrian Ring alongside his friends, with the five navy ships that made the trans-Atlantic voyage to find the European Trinity. He must find the Soul, the Scribe, and the Warden and get them on their path, as he walk his, but there are obstacles.
The undead in Europe are faster and stronger than anything they’ve encountered, and the survivors here are hungry, and desperate for help. They can’t fight every zombie, but each one they pass could be a lethal threat to their own people, or to the locals who’ve fought hard to survive.
Luckily, he encounters a small, well-armed group of car-equipped survivors, led by a friendly man calling himself Chief, who dwarfs even the burly Adrian. They decide to work together to procure ground vehicles for the march north.
But Chief isn’t the savior he’s pretending to be, and there are far more monsters roaming in the dark of the old world than Adrian is prepared to face.
Dead Cities contains Adrian’s journal entries from September 9th, 2014 through November 27th, 2014. It also contains the side fictions The Ghost in the Boiler Room, Rachel and Mara, Fetters, Sanctuary, and Ernest Goes for a Walk.

Adrian’s undead diary
Love this series but no doubt a long wait until next book. Find it strange having a different narrator for this book.

Great continuation.
Great continuation of the story, with new and interesting supernatural twists that add a different, darker edge to Adrian's apocalypse.
DJ does a good job of the narration and in the tricky situation of picking up part way through a series that's had an established narrator for so long.
I feel like it's a moral duty though to mention that the narrator change was beyond the author's control, as Foster chose to exit the series through no fault of Chris. So those I've seen on US audible getting their knickers in a twist and crying foul and giving 1 harsh star based on a narrator change without bothering to get any context as to why that change happened, maybe actually check Chris' social media pages and you'd have seen Foster left the series months ago, which is why the audio was such a gap after print and ebook release. He's been pretty open about it. This wasn't Chris just deciding to change on a whim. He can't magically say "Hey James, no you can't leave because some entitled people will cry foul without bothering to find out why and just throw 1star at the book because they're having a sulk."
Some people. That's just low.
I mean... the narrator's name was on the book... you could have pressed the sample button first to decide whether it was for you or not.

Adrian's poop
lots of poop and cock references- made me smile. loved the narration. Some English voices are spot on, still struggled to listen to the more "cockney" voices. but good job in all. Great storyline- bring on 13

Brilliant!
Took a little getting used to the new narrator, but soon settled in to it! I did find that the voice put on for Abby made her sound like a" ditzy blonde" stereotype, instead of the tough, strong woman she is!
But yet again, fabulous writing, cannot wait for the next instalment!

Just couldn’t.
The story seemed slow and scattered. But the biggest problem for me was the narration. Not that he was bad. But after all the novels, this was NOT Adrian ring and I just couldn’t keep listening and had to be done with the series. Sadly, I returned the book. I did love the series. Up to this one.

I don’t believe Chris wrote this! Bad narration!
Wow, I’ve listened to the entire series twice and love it. Absolutely my favorite. However, this is terrible. I really don’t believe that Chris wrote this. The internal dialogue doesn’t seem the same as all then other books. Add in the fact that the narration is completely awful!!!! Pacing, inflection, accents… all very bad and with no consideration to the way previous installments were performed by James Foster. I couldn’t be more disappointed!!

Really?!?!
Man this one sucked. Loved the series, hated this one. Boring, didn’t really move the story along. HORRIBLE NARRATOR. Couldn’t finish.

More of the same. (No spoilers)
I was excited when I saw the new release on Audible. I left a review of the previous book in the series saying that I didn't feel like the book went anywhere and seemed more like a transitional book than another entry into the series. This book gave me the same feeling. At first I thought it was the change of narrator, but he really did do an overall good enough job I just think that the story has fizzled out and the author is attempting to prolong it without any new ideas or direction. This was one of my favorite zombie series, but I don't think I'll be reading any future entries. On the narrator, I heard that James Foster left the series but thought that I would give the new guy a chance. Like I said, he did an overall good job but the voice of some of the main characters was very frustrating. He made Abby sound like a valley girl and made Kevin sound like a high-pitched teenage boy. It just threw off both characters for me. I give the book four stars because it wasn't a bad book but really did nothing to progress the overall story.

Least favorite book in the series
I have listened to every book in the series.
This one is full of filler. I don't feel like the story moved forward at all.
The new narrator.... blech. His accents were ok but I wasn't as into his narration as the previous narrator.

The story is great as usual. I don't know why they changed the narrator, but the new one is bland , and emotionless.

Disappointed
Find it hard to believe the same person wrote this book that wrote the other 11. Adrien is a much more snarkier character and more immature. Uses a lot more foul language that adds nothing to the story. So disappointed in the performance. I miss the Foster guy. I just couldn.t embrace the performance in this book. He starts off by trying to sound like the old Adrien but then transitions to a snarky little twirp. Very disappointed in this last book. I don.t think I will get the next one if it comes out. Plus, Adrien never seems to mourn Michelle. She was such a main part of the last couple of books and he acts like she never mattered. This had a lot of potential when it first came out but now it has crashed and burned.

Listened twice
I’ve listened to the book twice just to give DJ a fair shake. I’m really trying not to compare him to James but it’s hard. His take on Adrian is just…..off. He sounds like he’s reading instead of being, if that makes sense. Now him as Tommy sounded more like what Adrian should sound like. I understand that changing voice actors mid series always throws it off but DJ just didn’t do this book any justice. I do love the story and the progression of the story. I just can’t get behind DJ
