Summary

Brady Garrett needs to go home. He's a conscripted recruit on Defender Three, one of a network of stations designed to protect the Earth from alien attack. He's also angry, homesick, and afraid. If he doesn't get home he'll lose his family, but there's no way back except in a body bag.

Cameron Rushton needs a heartbeat. Four years ago Cam was taken by the Faceless - the alien race that almost destroyed Earth. Now he's back, and when the doctors make a mess of getting him out of stasis, Brady becomes his temporary human pacemaker. Except they're sharing more than a heartbeat: They're sharing thoughts, memories, and some very vivid dreams.

Not that Brady's got time to worry about his growing attraction to another guy, especially the one guy in the universe who can read his mind. It doesn't mean anything. It's just biochemistry and electrical impulses. It doesn't change the truth: Brady's alone in the universe.

Now the Faceless are coming, and there's nothing anyone can do. You can't stop your nightmares. Cam says everyone will live, but Cam's probably a traitor and a liar like the military thinks. But that's okay. Guys like Brady don't expect happy endings.

Contains mature themes.

Good story

I enjoyed the book. The story kept me interested and narration was good. I didn't like that it seemed as if Wade and his pals got away with what they did. Other than that, the book was interesting.

Extraordinary

I wasn’t sure what to expect since I’m not a big sci fan but I love the author. I was pleasantly surprised. The characters drew me in from the beginning. Great plot and characters alongside excellent narration made this an enjoyable listen.

Slick

Well narrated, well written space tale. The off-terra premise explores several possibilities of inner and outer space, of exploration and of how the MM MCs boldly go at it. Through good dialogue and inner voice we learn all aspects and implications of terror on terra.

Looking forward to Book 2.

ENJOYABLE

Sharing minds and a fear of aliens

This is a story set in space with all the fears of being in the black vacuum of space and there being no escape from the life you’re forced to live until the unthinkable happens and then you might not have a life at all. The world Lisa Henry has constructed for her characters is claustrophobic and harsh for those at the bottom of the pile. Her main characters are engaging and I felt for them as they wallowed in the mire of prejudice while discovering their attraction for each other. The alien which brings these two together sees humans as insignificant, inferior beings, yet has a fondness for the one he has captured. I was surprised by the ending. I thoroughly enjoyed this story.

Loved the E-book, adore the audio version

What a great book, to hear the characters brought to life was amazing & I was in tears when Brady was, well, you’ll just have to listen. Fantastic.

Well written and engaging

I was immersed from the very start. Suitable even for those who are not into sci-fi, because it does not go hard with it. Not a lighthearted story, because the main character's life is not an easy one, he is an underdog, trying to survive, therefore has many demons. I liked him.

Dark Space

Dark Space is a masterful Sci-Fi Romance written by Lisa Henry and narrated by Chris Chambers.
The futuristic world building and character development is intelligently and well written, the pacing perfect and main characters believable and likeable.
There is a darkness and sense of foreboding throughout the book, with the threat of the “Faceless” and Kai-Ren in particular, on the horizon, but if the return of the lost hero, Lt Cameron Rushton, is to be believed, peace may be an option. But it all hinges on lowly recruit, Brady Garrett keeping him alive as his “temporary pacemaker”, Cam needing touch to survive.
I loved the growing connection between Cam and Brady, biomedical and emotional, the sex was hot too.
I can’t wait for book 2 Darker Space.
Chris Chambers did an excellent job narrating, bringing to life the characters and the story, especially the atmospheric feeling of the book.

A quite incredible story of alien invasion, love, understanding and overcoming hardship, heartbreak. I've completed the whole tribology in 3 days and the entire story is quite breath taking..
