Summary
"A bite or scratch will turn the victims to one of the infected within 72 hours..."
Those words rang in Evan Berry's head. Waking to discover he'd been scratched was a death sentence. Deciding that he would not force Carl or Betty to have to put him down after he turned, Evan said farewell to his group and slipped out in the middle of the night.
Deciding that he would make one last run in the hopes that he could bring back enough supplies for his beloved Newfoundland, Chewie, Evan embarks on a quest that will show him just how fast and far society has fallen. Will he make it before he turns, or will he perish...alone?

Love the new series
I really enjoyed the original dead series, and really don't understand the flack TW Brown received.
I'm glad he returned to the world he created and this is another great book.

Loved it
I have listened to the first book in this series and have enjoyed this even more because it’s a continuation of Evan Berry’s adventure during the Zompoc. Can it get any worse for him. Yes it can. There is a whole host of new characters introduced ~ good & bad. I cannot wait until the next instalment is released on audible. However in the meantime I have downloaded book 3 so I can find out what happens next.

Enjoying it so far
I'm enjoying this new book, I like that he’s not as heroic as some of the other characters and being a single character story there is time to go into a lot of depth.
One star was lost as there is A LOT of talk about how it isn’t like the movies etc. etc. etc., that was Kevin’s thing, it worked for Keven, he was a geek, a thinker, a movie lover and I appreciate many people would probably have these thoughts but we cover this thoroughly in the first 12 book series and its just a bit boring to keep hearing it again from Evan, and it was regular enough for it to lose a star. The story in general is very enjoyable I just found those little comments really hard to listen to (plus I have been running/ driving a lot lately and so have binged the last 4 Dead books then these two new ones so possible I’m a bit more sensitive to it!).
Otherwise I've enjoyed the beginning again! I was just starting to get a little bored of the 'beginning' every time with the 'Snapshot' series so this was needed and it’s good to know we can follow the story as far as it goes, I like the discoveries of the reality of things, it is still fresh despite 'starting' in this universe for the 6th time!

more interesting & elaborate than the first volume
Volume two picks up right where volume one leaves off. Evan, now convinced he is infected, leaves his companions to do one or two last good deeds for his dog and friends. His adventures continue to lead him astray as he meets new survivors, some friendly, some horribly evil. He is forced to face his own nature as he has to fight the living, perhaps descending into a murderer in the process.
We see much more of the evolving world as Evan fights for his diminishing life. White supremacists and other groups are starting to divide up the crumbling landscape into fiefdoms. He desperately tries to remain true to his morals as he watches his own humanity slip away.
The zombie apocalypse, though still recent, is more deeply revealed in this second installment. Evan holds onto his last grasp of his past as he wants to do just one more good deed for his dog. This fixation makes him relatable, even though it puts him in extreme and continual danger. He’s lasted longer than any other infected person and he’s planned his short future on this one questionable fact.
The story is more interesting and elaborate than the first volume. And if you’ve enjoyed the first installment, you will very likely like this one even more.
Once again, TW Brown performs his own novel. The listener is used to his voice and flaws by this point and just goes with it. Here is a recap from a review of the narrator from the first novel: Brown’s voice is pleasant enough, sometimes stumbling over phrases and not always differentiating the characters well. His female and male characters sometimes morph into each other. On the other hand, he lends a personal tone to the story. No one knows a story better than the author and the listener gets just a little more depth from certain characters for it. It is a personal taste and one can’t really say if his reading is a positive or negative, adding in some ways and detracting in others.
Dead Alone is better than the first book, both in depth and detail. It is basically a retake on the many zombie stories. But by book two you are invested in the characters and want to see how Evan and his friends get out of impossible situations. You’ve read book one, keep going for more gruesome zombie fun. You’ll likely want to listen to the sequel(s) too.

Not a typical zombie book
This book best showcases regular people in a zombie apocalypse. I honestly have little interest in regular people or their emotions. about three-quarters of the way through Evan gets down to cold calculated survival and it's my favorite part of any tw brown book. I'm a nerds and vignettes kind of person. Everyone else is just food.

Great work, dude.
Perfect use of all our pop culture zombie lore and references, often really funny for those of us as obsessed with this stuff. I often laughed out loud at Romero references, shopping malls, etc. Still, while acknowledging antecedents, original ideas, great character development, and just really enjoyable writing. Well done, sir. And the same for the previous book. Please keep this series going; you are really the best I've read/heard (audio books). And I'm a fanatic! Mark Fowler, Facebook/Mark .B. Fowler.

Amazing storyline
I really can relate to this Evan character, I mean he's a human in the zombie apocalypse. He struggles with things that I have always struggled with when not only reading this genre, but in everyday life. It is written and narrated by the same person so you really get a feel for how he meant for things to be portrayed. It is an amazing storyline even if you're "not into zombies".

Awesome!
TW Browns Dead series is definitely one of my favorites. Browns newest books in the Dead series are a nice change from the others with having the main character being the ultimate hero. in this series Even is just a normal guy and he make some selfish moves and some heroic ones. You gotta just love to hate this guy. the story is very well told and makes you want more.
