Summary
David was caught in the middle of the city when the zombie outbreak started. His wife and daughters were at home, stranded on the roof as zombies waited below. He would have to fight through hordes of undead, merciless other survivors, and a series of death defying stunts to get home. However, even if he makes it there, how can he be sure they're safe?
Deadlocked puts you into David's head as he struggles to get home. Then a final confrontation occurs that could guarantee his family's survival, but at what cost?

Looks like a great series to follow
I can't explain why each book is so short, it made me avoid this series until now. I guess the upfront cost is cheap to get people started, as the stories get longer and more worth a credit later on.
Early on we find out that the infection is intentional, as people received "pricks" in subways. A few days after, today, people just change to zombies and start eating the normals. David needs to get away from down town to his wife and kids, which he actually does as that's just half way through the story. I liked this because I got to see him and his family interact and be part of the story, it wasn't just the end of the story. David is pretty smart, so is his wife and kid in fact, but they aren't brutal, which is a problem not only in this book, but the next as I'm currently reading book 2 now. Threats to your life and family need to be eliminated, zombie or human!
I wasn't very impressed by the narrator, kinda monotone, non flowing kind of reading. Didn't sound like a pro. But each book has new narrators, an excellent idea I think, I prefer the narrator in book 2. So yeah, I'm following this series, and I think you should too!

Decent story but a terrible narrator
A good short story about zombies. The only thing that ruined the audiobook was the narrator, they read it so dry. They had not emotion in their voice, it was as if they were reading the ingredients on a box of cereal. The lack of emotion in reading really undersold the character and events taking place.

Dave is having a Bad Day.
What happens when someone jabs you with a needle on your way to work? Well, you turn into a people eating zombie. Dave is back to work after a tense doctor visit. Then he finds out about the zombie apocalypse. His only thought is, I've got to get home to see if my family is alright.
I believe this audio book is the perfect start to what is coming next in the series.

A couple exciting hours!
Another action packed, suspense laden listen. David's an average guy at work when he see's a gruesome sight on the news. Children on a school bus eating other children. Horrified he and his co-workers check out early. There's more backstory given about the break out and illness infecting everyone.
All he wants to do is get home to his wife and girls but the odds are against him. One terrifying moment after the next it seems he will perish. Luck isn't with him and fights tooth and nail. Hes an office guy gone zombie vigilante to get home to his family. As unrealistic as that seems I think under the circumstances most people would find the strength to accomplish heroic acts.
The plot is simple, the story progresses quickly and as a bonus the first couple chapters of the second book are available at the end. Even I cringed throughout this story and I really enjoyed the little things the author thought of and put into this.

enjoyable read
Would you listen to Deadlocked 1 again? Why?
yes, it was entertaining....but first i want to read all the books.
What does Brian Sutherland bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
his voice fits perfectly to the characters.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
yes, but my kindle ran out of its charge so i had to charge it then jump back into the book. this book was written well and kept my attention. the characters were people that you wanted to be friends with and wanted to survive.

Just bad...
I got about 3 chapters in before I had to quit. the narrator sounds like he's reading an instruction manual for assembling furniture the entire time, and the writing itself is terrible ("I couldn't fathom what she was warning me about..." in the middle of what's already been established as a zombie attack... really?). The whole hour that I could stand was nothing but stereotypical repeats of every opening zombie book or film, ever... but done poorly and awkwardly.
