About this listen
Curious Minds by number one best-selling author Janet Evanovich and screenwriter Phoef Sutton is a gripping thriller for fans of the Stephanie Plum mysteries including One for the Money and Tricky Twenty-Two.
They couldn't be less compatible, but they make a great team....
Emerson Knight is introverted and eccentric and has little to no sense of social etiquette. Good thing he's also brilliant, rich and (some people might say) handsome.
Riley Moon has just graduated from Harvard. Her assertive (some people might say aggressive) spitfire attitude has helped her land a dream job at Blane-Grunwald bank. At least Riley Moon thinks it's her dream job until she is given her first assignment: babysitting Emerson Knight.
An inquiry about missing Knight money leads to a missing man, missing gold and a life-and-death race across the country. Through the streets of Washington, DC, and down into the underground vault of the Federal Reserve in New York City, an evil plan is exposed - a plan so sinister that only a megalomaniac could think it up, and only the unlikely duo of the irrepressibly charming Emerson Knight and the tenacious Riley Moon could hope to stop it....

Sadly, the story just didn't "sparkle" for me, and I seriously thought about returning it unfinished.
The "thriller" aspect is OK, but the way the scheme was explained was an unimaginative info-dump late in the story. Some of this could easily have been worked in earlier. The gold fingerprinting "science" sounds like something from the 1970's, not the easy-peasy routine test it would be today.
Emerson simply wasn't a plausible character for me, and the constant reliance on his plans to drive the story and provide tension seemed a teeny bit lazy.
The humour often seemed rather forced.
Bit flat

Would you listen to Curious Minds again? Why?
I have loved the Stephanie Plum books since I first discovered them and wait eagerly for each new one but I could not take to the FBI agent/crook series at all but I loved the Metrosexual/NASCA series. I thought I would try this book and see how it went. I loved it, for me, it was the best thing she/they have done so far.Who was your favorite character and why?
Emmerson was my favourite character of course. His hopelessly clueless cleverness is very entertaining and endearing. I also like the aunt who was in her vernacular 'a pistol'.Have you listened to any of Lorelei King’s other performances? How does this one compare?
I love Lorelei King's voice and her style of rendering the books she narrates. This is well up to her very high standards. Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The conversation between Emmerson and Vernon regarding Willy the Zebra had me laughing and going aww...Any additional comments?
I have already checked out the publication date on the next book in this series which I guess is a good indication of my level of enjoyment.A New series I can get behind.

The writing didn't really make up for the horrible narrator so I had to return this one.
Narrator sounds like a robot
