Joey O'Callaghan was just 18 years old when he became a ghost - the youngest ever person to be signed up to the Witness Protection Programme. Groomed into a drug gang from the age of 10, a cold-blooded assassination sickened him to his core, and he broke the golden bond of gangland silence. His evidence won murder convictions against two of the most violent drug bosses in Ireland.

Story
Shay grew up on a tough Manchester council estate where drugs and gangs were rife. A life of crime would have been an easy path to take. So it went against everything that was expected of him when he joined the police. It wouldn't be long before Shay's prodigious talent caught the attention of the top. Then came the call that changed his life: an offer to join the secret level one undercover unit known as Omega. And it was easy to see why they wanted him; he wouldn't have to stray too far from what he already knew.

Story
The Detroit True Crime Chronicles sets forth the rich history of criminal activity in the Motor City. Using information from declassified federal documents and many firsthand accounts, the book focuses on the city's local Mafia, key mobsters, drug kingpins, serial killers, and unsolved crimes.
Summary
Irish mafia from the streets of Dublin to the highest echelons of global organised crime and right into the heart of professional boxing.
When a weigh-in turns into a gangland bloodbath, the tables begin to turn on the powerful Kinahan Organised Crime Group. But is it too late to tame the beast, or can the law finally catch up with the mob?
Best-selling author and award-winning crime journalist Nicola Tallant brings the listener on her own journey of discovery as she delves into the dangerous underworld where a golden era of cocaine turned a brat pack of street dealers into an international mafia.
With a unique insight into the rise of mob and its reach into boxing through a tapestry of confidential informants and some too-close-for-comfort experiences, Tallant brings to life one of the most extraordinary stories in modern organised crime.
Following the trail from the local authority estates of the Irish capital to the gilded mansions of Dubai, Clash of the Clans: The Rise of the Irish Narcos and Boxing’s Dirty Secret powers through the intriguing tale of the cocaine cowboys and the rivalries that threaten to bring down an empire.

Truth and Lies
Nobody is doubting the gang wars going on in Ireland, the trouble is, this book is a combination of truth and lies, there are many things that just don't stand up for me.
What really jumps out at me, Nicola seems to have a real personal axe to grind, you can almost feel the personal seething animosity, which Nicola holds for Daniel Kinahan, at one point, Nicola compares Daniel Kinahan to Trump, and uses the fact Trump called out fake news, I find this ironic because it has been confirmed that the Russian collusion story, has been completely exposed has fake news, which was funded by the Clinton's, one minute Nicola is saying that Kinahan is some sort of evil genius, the next minute she's portraying him has a egotistical idiot. It's a entertaining book, Nicola has a way with words, but I would put this in the crime fiction section.

A compelling book.
I’ve been a fan of Nicola Tallant since her guest appearances on “The Stand with Eamon Dunphy” and latterly her own “Crime World” podcast.
The story of the Kinehan Organised Crime Group is fascinating, and is like something devised by David Chase.
She’s the greatest crime journalist Ireland has produced and her coverage of the Kinehans is her Magnum Opus.
Unfortunately, she doesn’t narrate this herself. Sue Parks rushes somewhat and some of her shoddy literal pronunciations should have been caught by an editor.

Informative book but painful narration.
You would need to be generally familiar with the feud because the timeline of the book jumps around quite a bit. It does go into interesting detail however and was an easy read/listen.
For a book that requires so many uses of the word Gardaí you would think they would get it right, but no. The word Garda is used for everything be it singular or plural "members of the Garda arrived" etc. Just one example of many errors/mispronunciations. After a while it does detract from the book.
