Summary
On the tiny Scottish island of Mure, Christmas preparations are even more hectic than usual....
Especially when their motley staff includes a temperamental French chef, a spoilt Norwegian kitchen boy who can't peel a potato without mutilating his own hand and a painfully shy kitchen assistant who blushes when anyone speaks to her.
Can they pull it together in time for the big opening?
And can Flora help her family find happiness this Christmas?

Spoiled by change in narrator
Having listened in rapid succession to the previous three books in the Mure series (which I thoroughly enjoyed) prior to listening to "Christmas at the Island Hotel", I found the change of narrator spoilt this latest novel. The main characters did no longer feel familiar; the narrator made the novel sound like a children's book although I am not certain why that was. I assume there was a reason a different narrator was used for this fourth story, but I think the same narrator is important when a series is produced as an audio book, because the 'voice' of each character contributes to how the listener identifies them and pictures them in their head. I also found the storyline less interesting with my mind often drifting away to other thoughts and therefore having to frequently "rewind".

Why change narrator for final book?!
It was probably really good but I had so much invested in the characters from the first three that I just couldn't enjoy this final one with the new narrator. Not a complaint about the narrator at all as she was very good but her accent...well just everything was so different that I just couldn't enjoy it - very disappointing

Spoilt the book by not having the same Narrator
The story was good, but what let this down for me was a different Narrator, she was good but just was not the same. Having listened to the previous two book for continuity having the same narrator would have been so much bettwe and made this book 5 stars. The story was good and linked to previous two books, would recommend a listen but just didn't have the edge of the first 2 books.

Perfect continuation of the storylines on Mure
beautiful as per usual. I think one of the main themes of this story is about finding out who you are and being confident in your abilities, hopes and dreams! I really like this series of books as she delves into some deeper issues. The initial characters carry on with their stories dotted throughout the new plot lines. I really like hearing how the doctor and his family are settling in and adjusting to the new world they have been thrust into. Jenny Colgan continues to address this serious issue very sensitively. She also shows us what happens after the happy ever after of Flora meeting the love of her life and the difficulties in being a 21st century woman. I really hope there is more to come in this series as I feel there is great scope for plot lines on the little, but beautiful, Isle of Mure! and of course the main plot focuses on the new love interest of a young couple which is sweet and endearing.

Change of narrator put me off (sorry)
I had listened again to book 3 to refresh myself with the characters, found to off putting with the change of narrators for this book, the previous narrator was so good and helped me loose myself in to Jenny’s fab writing, maybe if I hadn’t re listened to the last book it would not have bothered me, but I felt I couldn’t get in to the story, so have returned for a credit and will get the paperback to read,

Changing the narrater!
Changing the narrater for the four book was very annoying, I'm not sure if it was written differently as well or if it was the narrater but I just couldn't connect to the characters in this book as well as the other three.

Disappointed
I never thought that I would give one of Jenny’s books 3stars .... I normally love them.
The plot was all over the place and quite honestly not a lot really happened.
Yes there was a HEA .... but that was about the only good point.

Narrator changed why?
I don’t understand the need to change narrator mid series but the new one is awful. I couldn’t understand half she said and it was just hard work. Returned for credit.

Another Colgan Triumph
If you adore Jenny's books as I do then you will not be disappointed. Like hot chocolate, cosy pj's and a roraring fire, our latest outing to Mure is everything you want it to be and more. I have immediately restarted the book as I can't bear that it's finished!

Change of narrator
Absolutely loved the first books in the Mure serious, great stories and great narrator. This story feels very disjointed and the momentum from the previous books has been lost. The change of narrator is such a shame and unfortunately she's not as good as the one. I'll continue listening to finish the series but very disappointed.
