About this listen

Some wounds can't be healed.

Max Logan longs for the joys of home and family he missed growing up in foster care. He fills that emotional void by becoming a kick-ass Marine, and for 18 years, he leads his band of brothers from one hellhole to another. Until the one that nearly destroyed him.

Sixteen months of therapy and rehab put his body back together, but some wounds can’t be seen.

Skylar Ward dreams of a life that includes someone beside her. Someone to share her life and be a father to her young daughter. But if she learned anything from her failed marriage, it was that you don’t rush into a relationship. Only Max Logan sparks her interest. But the handsome, brooding war hero remains aloof.

Seven-year-old Maddie Ward overhears a neighbor telling her mom she needs a male companion and immediately decides Max will do just fine. He needs a family. They need him. She just has to figure out how to make that happen.

Can a precocious child be the catalyst that heals and brings them all together or will ashes of the past bury hope forever?

HEAT LEVEL 4 - Steamy: Steamy scenes and mild swearing, open door. Think R-rated. Deals with Max's thoughts and emotions behind his PTSD in a positive and encouraging manner.

Lovely story with great characters

I really enjoyed listening to this audio book. The story was really lovely and I adored the characters. The narrator in particular did a great job of trying to bring the characters to life. I loved listening to Sky and Max’s relationship evolve over the story – they were both really nice characters and I was really rooting for them. I loved Sky’s daughter too, she was sweet and sassy at the same time! There were some great secondary characters too especially Big John! I also think the author did a great job with some of the more sensitive topics addressed in this story!
A great audio book and one I would highly recommend!

A great story

This is an overall lovely story about characters finding their way to their chance at a happy family. The characters were easy to relate to and were so good because the author didn’t try and hide their flaws. I loved the way the author dealt with the issue of PTSD. It felt like a sensitive approach but one that still conveyed the seriousness of the issue.

I enjoyed experiencing the book in the audio version too as it really helped me to visualise more everything happening. It took no effort to be pulled along by the story and it was great to have it playing. This is a wonderful book that I thoroughly enjoyed.
