About this listen

Kaleb Reigns just wants to live a normal life. So much in fact that he swore an Oath to never use any of his gifts again. An Oath to leave the supernatural world behind, to walk away and never interfere again. Kaleb’s best friend is missing, and someone is messing with his dreams. He has been warned by the witches not to get involved, but Kaleb has to make a choice.

Some Oaths are meant to be broken.

I often listen to grand, sweeping epics of apocalyptic consequences and tbh it can get a bit tiring hopping from one to another. This audiobook was a real breath of fresh air, something bright and breezy while still having moments of horror, peril and emotion. These kind of books are absolutely as valid and important as the big epics and this one is a good example. It reminded me of the Buffy TV show I loved in my childhood.

I'm not a big urban fantasy fan after reading stormfront by Jim Butcher and nearly DNFing. but this was a fabulous story with humour and stakes. full review on my blog but i am certainly keen for more. the narrator was a bit monotonally bland at first but grew into it.

overall 4*

fantastic debut urban fantasy
