About this listen

It is 1941 and Captain Antonio Corelli, a young Italian officer, is posted to the Greek island of Cephallonia as part of the occupying forces. At first he is ostracised by the locals, but as a conscientious soldier, whose main aim is to have a peaceful war, he proves in time to be civilised, humorous - and a consummate musician. When the local doctor's daughter's letters to her fiancé go unanswered, the working of the eternal triangle seems inevitable. But can this fragile love survive as the war gets closer and the lines are drawn between invader and defender?

Story is superb and the narration is pretty good, barring a few ear splitting loud moments! Ending made my heart ache!

Magnificently written, this gripped me from start to finish. Heartbreaking honest and with so much integrity. Narration was excellent, lovely voice and charisma. Would definitely recommend, and I'm sure I would listen again.

loved this book. it does not attempt to blame any country for being wrong in war, it shows the futility and waste of fighting. it celebrates love; romantic love, family love and the strong bond between friends. it shows the importance of hope and strength possessed by people in tragedy. I will never forget this book.

a definition of war

Listening to this book brings the language to life. I have found it difficult to read but listening with all the accents and difficult words has made this an unmissable and incredible experience.

Fabulous

What a stupid ending...characters behaving against type. Ridiculous premise...The majority of the book was so good too.

I read this book first when I was eighteen and laughed out loud and cried more often in any given chapter than in all the books I've ever read before and after put together. I just listened to it and enjoyed the book again now at the age of 32 and laughed and cried even more than the first time.
This book gives you a fascinating view on historical facts during the second world war, a love story that is unbeaten in my eyes and happiness, laughter, devastation and horror that in the wittiest of ways can make you laugh out loud with glee and then plunge you into fits of uncontrollable tears in the same page.
it's an emotional rollercoaster that everyone has to experience. My favourite book of all time.

This is the best story ever told
