Summary

From best-selling author of Dead Meat comes a new, fast-paced, unpredictable and brutal zombie series with a fresh take on the genre.

Two teenagers find a frozen corpse in the middle of the woods and decide to bring it back to town. They have no idea they just sparked the zombie apocalypse.

In the morgue below the hospital, the dead begin waking up and attacking the living. The infection spreads rapidly, turning the place into a slaughterhouse as those inside fight to survive against the undead.

As the situation escalates, authorities are forced to seal off the building in an attempt to contain the spread of the virus. But it may already be too late....

Fans of Mark Tufo, Bobby Adair, Mike Evans, and Camille Picott will devour this action-packed zombie series. And if you liked Slow Burn, Dead State, or The End of Everything, you’ll love Cadaver.

A real page turner

This book starts with 2 boys Jakob and Viggo who find a dead body in the woods and decide to take it back with them to show off to their friends. But this body is not all that it seems.

It’s fast paced, action packed and your heart is in your mouth from page 1 right up to the very last page.

The narrator is amazing, one of the best I’ve listened to and he really adds to the story and the tension as well.

I really cannot recommend this one enough.

Thank you to Nick for gifting me the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Now don’t mind me, I’m off to dive straight into book 2.

Half a book

The story was okey. I enjoyed it, short as it was. I looked for the next in the series and found it was only 4 hours long. So I guess they took one book and cut it in two as a money grab.
I’ll leave this story at book one. I feel a rip off coming

Listened in two sittings.

This is a really enjoyable take on the Zombie genre. The characters are well rounded and the storylines are engaging. Also the descriptions of the Zombie attacks are brutal and vivid. I love this. Really looking forward to book 2. Highly recommended.

Absolutely hooked!

I binge listened to this one! It kept me up most of last night and I have been anti social all day.

The interactions between characters moves the story on effortlessly.

I am actually left wanting to download the next book and keep the story going.

Audio books for me are usually for long drives and bedtimes but this is worth binging.

I like the narrators voice and presentation.

I think this is another hit for Nick and a book I will listen too again.

Ignore the previous review!

Please ignore the first review. The last reviewer seems to think the book was written by a middle schooler, but if you actually read the book, you’ll realize that a lot of the characters are early twenties, in high school, or some cases, not even 13. It reads exactly the way it should. I enjoyed the book and I thought it was a great read. I really enjoyed the audible version and I think the narrator did such a great job using different voices for the characters. The book was interesting and fast paced. If you’ve ever read any zombie apocalypse books, you’ll understand that this book is right up there with all the rest. This author does an amazing job bringing the reader into the story. At every turn, I was listening to the story and thinking, “oh please make it!” That is a sign of a great author, someone who is able to engage the readers in such a way that they root for the characters. I have not started on the second book yet, but will be doing so this evening. I have read every other book series by this author and am patiently waiting for the next Breaking Sky. If you like apocalypse, end of world, zombie type books check out Under the Breaking Sky. It is a great series and I can’t wait for the next one.

Yet another zombie book

Disclaimer: I’d received a code for this book in exchange for my own personal review.

Within the last few weeks, a month at best, the author of this book asked if I’d be interested to listen to this book for free in exchange for a review. I said yes and after receiving the code for this book, which appeared in a second email after the initial one didn’t have it (I don’t blame the author as I would probably do the same), I eventually downloaded it after finishing another audiobook I’d purchased from the US Audible store. The story itself is okay but just long enough to pass the time. It was predictable in some parts but enough to not ruin the story, and one can predict whom would survive and who would die. The one part I found odd was the hole and what was in it (if you listened to the audiobook or read the book, you know what I’m referring to).

The story itself isn’t too bad and the pacing was good. The characters were relatable and plot was good. If I stumbled on this, I probably would look into it and maybe listen to the sample before making my decision on to buy or pass. However, as it was a freebie for review, I probably would look for this at my local library and borrow it from there for the follow up and save some money for something else. It’s enjoyable but not enough for me to get overly excited for it.

Awesome Book!

The way the story is told, and the plot line are great. To me it’s way a zombie outbreak would happen in real life. It’s one of those those you can’t put down without wondering what’s going to happen next.

Couldn’t Finish It

I don’t know if it’s the writing or how the narrator reads it, but I could not stand it. The male characters come off so annoying. The women characters feel like they are being portrayed as bimbos. Perhaps this would be better if read but not as an audio book. Wasted a credit.

Excellent zombie apocalypse origin story!

I love a good zombie origin story, and the audio book version of Cadaver delivered exactly that, and even more. From the moment when the boys find the corpse hanging in the cabin the stage is set, not just the stage, but the hook. I was hooked right off the bat and couldn’t stop until Spencer Dillehay had spoken the final word in that last page. Nick Calusen has created a cast of characters who are just normal everyday people cast into an unimaginable situation because of a young man’s need to impress his older brother. From the suspenseful opening to the action-packed middle to an ending that nearly brought me to tears, to say I was entertained by this story is an understatement. To top it off, Spencer’s narration really brought the story and characters to life, so many times I closed my eyes and saw the scenes he was describing not to mention felt the suspense and anticipation he built through his delivery.

If you enjoy zombie apocalypse stories grab a copy of Cadaver and get started on what looks to be an excellent series.

Good take on the Zombie Apocalypse genre.

Believable story premise. Young guy doing something to stupid to impress, causes catastrophic disaster. Who doesn't know someone like that? The story is written in present tense which is hard for me to adjust to as most books I read are past tense. This style does lend itself to imparting a sense of tension and immediacy which this author uses to good effect. The narrator of the book really throws himself into the action, changing his voice as much as possible for each character and putting boatloads of emotion into each scene. Sometimes he is a bit over the top but you have to give him credit for passion and commitment. I have to admit that this author and this genre are a guilty pleasure for me. I love Nick Clausen's engagement with his readers, his sense of humor and his determination to grow the skills of his craft. I read the books first then Nick sent out codes to check out the Audible. I read quickly and I can definitely say I got caught up in the tension even though I knew what was coming. No character is safe. Some authors telegraph who will die by making them " other ", not part of the core group of survivors. I love how Mr Clausen has no respect for the "immunity" of core characters and will let you get engaged with someone and kill them in the most gruesome way possible in the next chapter! Hold on to your heartstrings!

solid

this is a solid book. the writing is really not that great, but it's is good enough description wise. maybe it really gets lost in translation? I don't know, and who am I to critique anyone's work? the performance was a little over the top, and it felt like he was on the edge of his seat the whole time, but in a good way. I really did enjoy this book and will get cadaver 2.

Norse teens find a hanged man…

Jacob and Axel decide to take the man to the morgue, but when he warms up inside their truck he comes to life and tries to bite them! The teens escape and wreck their truck, but make it to the hospital.

Police officer Tom finds a tunnel dug into the back yard at an elderly Couple’s house, and watches as a huge monster catches his partner and kills him. Two trouble making boys are also killed my the tunnel monster.

Meanwhile, back at the hospital, all hell breaks loose as the dead in the morgue come back to life and chase and bite the living. Axel’s girlfriend is a nurse and along with another nurse begin a long race through the hospital.

This book is so well written. The characters are the kids from your block, from snarky preteens excited to find zombies to chase, to young cops, to terrified hospital patients.
Nick Clausen takes a well worn plot and makes it all fresh and new.

Don’t let Cadaver get away.
