Summary

A perfect village. A perfect crime.

When two young girls disappear from their primary school, the village of Heighington is put on high alert—and not for the first time. Called in to investigate, Detective Karen Hart is sure that parallels with a previous disappearance are anything but coincidental.

DS Hart is still reeling from a case she tried and failed to solve eighteen months ago, when a young woman vanished without a trace. She’s no nearer to the truth of what happened to Amy Fisher, but with two children missing now, too, the stakes have never been higher. As she looks to the past for clues, she must confront her own haunting loss, a nightmare she is determined to spare other families.

Hart soon realizes that nothing in this close-knit Lincolnshire community is what it seems. Pursuing the investigation with personal vengeance, she finds herself in conflict with her scrupulous new boss, but playing by the rules will have to wait. Because while there’s no shortage of suspects, the missing girls are running out of time....

Another promising series.

The start of another promising series with another great woman detective. Really like hart as she is a very strong character who was determined to bring the two missing girls home, i hope in other books we will learn more about what makes her tick.

intriguing

Thourouly enjoyed the mystery and characters, very real to life with frustrating twists,
I found it hard to cope with the accent used by the narrator as I found I was constantly being placed in a Faith Martin book as that lead DI and other characters this was disapointing

Narrator

Please when hiring someone to narrate find someone with feeling and how the story is going. This narrator has no feeling wat so ever in her voice.

Terrible accents!

I’m sure it’s hard to come up with different voices but this was dreadful! Lots of country bumpkin versions of Lincolnshire accent plus ridiculously plummy voices. Only pleased the Scottish police chief only appeared briefly at the beginning!

Good story, dreadful narration.

I'm struggling to listen to this, despite an engaging storyline, due to the dreadful narration. The narrator can't 'do' accents and it is painful to hear her attempts.

Terrible accents

I found the various accents used for different characters in this book off putting and irritating.

Good story but characters are a not exactly professional I. Their approach

This was a reasonable read but not anywhere near as exciting as the last book I read which was actually a fantasy which I never read but someone bought for me. A novel by W D Milton, called A Kings Immolation. I think maybe reading such a good book spoilt this one for me. I found their was a lack of true investigative work. And the characters seemed to work on gut rather than following real leads. A bit disappointing.
