Summary
From the critically acclaimed author of Hekla’s Children comes a dark and haunting tale of an ancient cult wreaking bloody havoc on the modern world.
Struggling with the effects of early onset dementia, Dennie Keeling now leads a quiet life. Her husband is dead, her children are grown, and her best friend, Sarah, was convicted of murdering her abusive husband. After Sarah’s tragic death in prison, Dennie has found solace in her allotment, and all she wants is to be left to tend it in peace. Life remains quiet for 12 years, until three strangers take on a nearby plot and Dennie starts to notice unnatural things. Shadowy figures prowl at night; plants flower well before their time. And then Sarah appears, bringing dire warnings and vanishing after daubing symbols on the walls in Dennie’s own blood.
Dennie soon realizes that she is face-to-face with an ancient evil - but with her dementia steadily growing worse, who is going to believe her?

like rubber necking a RTA
really disturbing but like rubber necking an RTA, you can help but look. More times than I expected my teeth itched but stick with it its not a listen that I will forget in the fog of my 3 to 4 audible books a week.

Genius and captivating
This is the fifth book I have read of James Brogdan and each of them superb. This was a dark but rivetting read. Would definitely recommend.

Good Stuff
There are a few glitches in the recording itself, but otherwise a great read. Definitely chilling.

Not for me I’m afraid
This the third book by James brogden I’ve purchased from Audible, the first was plague stones and then Heklas children. I really enjoyed them both and just going off the blurb for bone harvest it sounded good. The problem was that story line doesn’t appear until much later in the book and if I’m honest I almost sent this back thinking audible had made a mistake in the description. It begins during ww1, then there’s a weird religious cult, orgies and a lot of nonsense. I persevered and I was really disappointed, it seemed disjointed and all over the place. Not for me.

Great
this is definitely my favourite by far out of all the James Brogden audiobooks I've listened to on audible (this one, Hekla's Children, the hollow tree and the plague stones). Interesting story, well developed characters and it kept me gripped till the end. the blurb on audible is a bit misleading but it's worth checking out!

stick with it - it's worth it!
almost didn't continue reading as the first part was pretty graphically gory - WWI trenches. however, once the story gets going it's a great plot. I've read a couple of books by the same author before and really enjoyed them, the stories are always very different.
for a lot of this book I found I preferred the 'baddies' but it gets to a tipping point at which you suddenly support the 'goodies'!
available as a book included in the plus catalogue I highly recommend a listen. I've already started listening to 'the hollow tree' also by James brogden.
