Summary

The Crozats feared that past murders at Crozat Plantation B&B might spell the death of their beloved estate, but they've managed to survive the scandal. Now there's a très bigger story in Pelican, Louisiana: the upcoming nuptials between Police Chief Rufus Durand and Vanessa Fleer.

Maggie Crozat, inexplicably tasked with being Vanessa's maid of honor, quickly discovers why everyone else refused the assignment when the bridezilla hands her a long list of duties - the most important of which is entertaining Vanessa's cousin, Ginger Fleer-Starke, a mysterious woman with dangerous secrets. But just days before the wedding, Ginger's lifeless body is found on the bayou behind Crozat Plantation. Now the Pelican PD and the Crozats have another murder mystery on their hands.

There's a gumbo pot full of suspects, including an ex-marine with PTSD, an annoying local newspaper reporter, and Vanessa's own spark plug of a mother. But when it looks like the investigation is zeroing in on Vanessa as the prime suspect, Maggie reluctantly adds keeping the bride-to-be out of jail to her list of maid-of-honor responsibilities.

Thoroughly enjoyed made me laugh

The characters are such that i got more involved with the sub-plot i.e. the denouement of the wedding and caught myself laughing out loud ...throughout the book. I rarely visit a book again...but this will be an exception.

Sickly story

Gave up about chapter 4. Nobody could be this sickly sweet. Their business would have been bankrupt years ago. Totally unbelievable.

Weddings can lead to murder

I enjoyed this book. It worked for me because I liked the characters who are just quirky enough to be fun and interesting. There is a lot of them, most of whom we meet in the first book, so you might want to start with that book to get to know them and all the relationships but it does make for a good standalone. This book is not all about the mystery as there is a lot going on from home life drama with finding lost pets and there babies, to relationship woes and wedding planning but don't worry it all ties in or helps lead to clues. The side story I liked best was the little boy with the puppies and kittens, tugs at the heart. The mystery was good and I never would have guessed the killer so was surprised. I was also very surprised with the ending, let's just say what started with drama ended with drama. Looking forward to the next book to see what the author has in store for the characters next.
Somehow Maggie has got roped into being the Maid of honour to her pregnant co workers Vanessa and her soon to be husband and long time nemesis the police chief Rufus Durand. Maggie's family a long time ago supposedly put a curse on the Durand family with regard to love and as a consequence Rufus blames her for everything that goes wrong in his life. Can Maggie finally put an end to the feud by helping with the wedding? The more Vanessa adds to her duties the more Maggie feels like the feud isn't so bad. Especially when Vanessa's cousin tells up early and Maggie's family is expected to host them at there B&B. Maggie thought Vanessa was bad but Ginger takes it to another level. Just when she thinks it can't get any worse she stumbles over her dead body. After Rufus has a silly argument with the mayor over parking spaces he is taken off duty and a replacement brought in. This spells trouble for the investigation as it also means Maggie's detective boyfriend is bumped to traffic duty and the new chief is convinced Vanessa is the killer. With the baby shower, bachelorlet party and the wedding still going ahead, it's up to Maggie as one of her many Maid of honour duties to find the real killer. At the same time Maggie's boyfriends ex is back in town and up to something, she finds a cat and dog that have recently given birth and need nursing, the guests at the B&B still need taking care of and her Grandmother seems to have found herself a boyfriend. Can Maggie juggle everything going on in her life and catch the killer before somebody else is killed.
I liked the narrator. She did a charming job of bringing the characters to life.
