Summary
Cam Folde will shake the very fabric of creation... or see all his hopes turn to ash.
The son of the town drunk, Cam never figured on letting his family name hold him down. He always strove to dream bigger, to fight for something better, to achieve more than what everyone else expected of him.
But, as they say, “once a Folde, always a Folde,” and when a decision to rescue a friend leads to disaster, fortune’s favor is lost. Cam spirals away from his dreams and ambitions; his fall finally ending at the bottom of a bottle.
But all hope is not lost. Cam rises, supported by family and friends. And when a powerful Master of Ephemera offers him a chance to walk the Way into Divinity and achieve redemption, Cam seizes the opportunity.
All he has to do is survive the Ephemeral Academy, the very school where the next generation of Masters are trained. There, Cam just might achieve the greatness he's always sought, and with friends at his side, including an irrepressible Awakened panda, it even seems possible.
But Cam will soon discover that the Way into Divinity is as steep as it is arduous, and there are more fearsome things than humans who brave its perilous climb...

Student Cultivator
Tragedy seems to follow Cam and how he will be able to overcome it. I feel like he mentions to often but maybe I just don't get it
I like his team mates they remind me a bit about Mage Errant group
The supporting cast is a enjoyable who are fully fleshed out with interesting personalities and backstories

So. Much. Fun.
I usually keep an eye on audiobooks Travis lends his professional eye to I must say that in this instance I am very. VERY. Pleased with the result. I normally prefer a more heavily Litrpg genre but I have found the pacing and perspective to be utterly exemplary. Often times a writer will choose a specific plot point as a get out of jail free or a 'trope' of the genre but frequently through this read I have found that the writer immerses you in the protagonist's mindset which further adds to the immersion. I have been utterly entranced by the characterization and the writers choices to build a world rather than tell a quick and easy story and thoroughly look forward to the next instalment although I appreciate that it may take a while to get it written/ recorded.

Weakness
I understand a character having a weakness but God damn, seems like every chapter includes how he's an alcoholic and how much he's tempted to drink. it never lets up ever.

Nothing is explained
The more I listen to the book the more confusing it gets. The author doesn’t explain anything about the magic or the world. He also can’t wait to tell u the MC is a drunk every 5 seconds.

Great listen! A+
I’ve only listened to the few chapters so far and I’m enjoying the ride. If you follow Ashura’s other works via audio book, this will be an adjustment since Travis Baldree is a different type of performer than Nick Podehl. I would encourage anyone to settle in, give it an honest chance and you’ll be hooked. What a great product! Glad I purchased!

Not good at all
It was grueling to listen to. No explanation about where the story starts or characters. Extremely disappointed.

Was initially disappointed
I was initially disappointed when Nick Podehl wasn’t the narrator. Travis Baldree did an amazing job. Another great read/listen from Davis Ashura.

Seems off
Really like this author and the stories are normally great. This one seems off to me and I think it’s because we never understand the systems or magic or the stakes of the world. It has good interactions and decent characters but world building is lacking.
