About this listen

 Thea Osborne and her spaniel, Hepzie, are house-sitting in the quiet village of Temple Guiting. Detective Superintendent Phil Hollis is looking forward to visiting for a night or two and celebrating the couple's anniversary.

A few days into their stay, a pile of human bones is discovered at the base of an uprooted tree. The locals all have their theories about their identity and rumours abound. Thea and Phil discover that the village turns out to have more than its fair share of secrets, including a strong connection to the Knights Templar.

The couple finds their relationship tested to the limits as they try to prevent another murder investigation from threatening the quiet solitude they hold so dear.

narrater posh voice was annoying, I am currently going through all of these books in order, so far I have enjoyed all of Rebecca tope books but this one took me a while to get through, it was confusing, and lacked the excitement of the other books , which is a shame, as I normally enjoy this author, hopefully I will enjoy the next one

Starting a New Year with a can of Danish Oil in one hand and a pack of sandpaper and bundle of wire wool in the other, and staring balefully at long-neglected wooden worktops in the kitchen isn't my idea of a great start to 2009. However, the hours have flown by, as I had the sensible idea of playing Blood in the Cotswolds as I worked.

With this title you basically get what it says on the tin (well, not excessive amounts of blood, but plenty of Cotswolds and lots of mystery). The narrator does an excellent job and, having recently returned from a weekend in the Cotswolds, the descriptions are spot-on. Characterisations are good and it's an enjoyable whodunnit set in a comfortably familiar setting. Not overly demanding, but that's no criticism.

When faced with a time-consuming but not mentally taxing task such as beech worktop restoration, I heartily recommend that you consider this title as a welcome diversion!

Too much crabbiness between Thea and Phil, too much 'my back hurts' 'oh, shut up, I'm a bad nurse'. The actual murder case becomes a backdrop and understandably so. It is convoluted and confused.

I felt that this author had a real hatred for fat people, the amount of times the FAT word was said. There was no ithervdigs at anyone or anything else. The reader was very plain and boring and the story had no story. There was a lot of words but nothing happened to get my attention. I kept listening for the hope that something might happen but it didnt. I wish I had not bought this book. It also had the ring of 1950's feel but it was set in recent times as they had internet. The characters also seemed like they were from a bygone era and not from the time the story was set. Very disappointing.

The performance by the narrator is best described as spirited . Her own accent came through at times and it sounded not conducive to a Cotswold environment.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disgust in the main for the views held by the central character and her side-kick (who is THE most ineffectual police officer I’ve come across in a work of fiction), regarding their views expressed about people who have weight issues: and the modern perception of child mortality. I don’t know how this one got past the publisher.

Wish I’d not bought it and listened to it.
