Summary

What choice do you make when those you've vowed to protect refuse to be protected?

Dead women are showing up in the desert east of San Diego, and no one understands why. When the story comes to the attention of reporter Natalie Ellis, she can't help but make comparisons to the tragic deaths she'd investigated years ago. Are these women the victims of a serial killer, or something even more insidious?

Bodies may be piling up in his sire's territory, but water vampire and feared enforcer, Baojia, is stuck entertaining the rich and clueless at a club in San Diego. He's taken his exile with all the grace he could muster, but his patience is starting to thin.

Sparks fly when mortal and immortal are thrown together, and Natalie comes face to face with a reality that was lurking in the corners of her life. Pursuing the truth could cost Baojia everything, including the mortal woman who has earned his grudging respect.

Blood and Sand is the second novel in the expanded Elemental World series by Elizabeth Hunter, author of the best-selling Elemental Mysteries.

Horrible Narration

I download audiobooks regularly to listen to while I work. I have read and listened to a few of Elizabeth Hunter's other books and have thoroughly enjoyed them! The narration of Blood and Sand was the worst narration yet! While the storyline was predictable, yet acceptable, I simply could not listen to the book in its entirety. If there were a way to return it, I most definitely would!

such potential turned to worse than drivel!

Would you try another book from Elizabeth Hunter and/or Dina Pearlman?

After her recovery, I would be likely to give Hunter br/>A second chance. I liked her other elemental books. Dina Pearlman, NO! Her narration was somehow less than one dimensional, if that is possible.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Different narration.

What didn’t you like about Dina Pearlman’s performance?

Everything.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Blood and Sand?

The scenes were fine. The character's actions and reasons for their actions were often totally inconceivable.

Any additional comments?

Yes, I think it is remarkable that having obviously suffered a terrible stroke Ms. Hunter was able to write this book. That is the only rational explanation for such a talented writer to produce and subject readers to such a work. And while I applaud her and audible for producing this book, I feel that the public should have been made aware that this was the work of a recovering cognitively challenged person. I have thoroughly enjoyed the other books in the elemental series. But there is no excuse for this abomination, other than that it was a therapeutic exercise for a recovering stroke victim. There were wonderful elements in the storyline and the characters. I had decided to continue this series, but after suffering through this latest story, I am no longer sure. But I will definitely NOT PAY for her next book. Such a shame because I really enjoyed the previous works. I will close by wishing Ms. Hunter a speedy recovery and the return of her mental faculties.

Good book

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed this book, but out of all of the elemental and elemental world books, this was my least favorite....but still ranks a 4 out of 5 star rating. The story line was a little predictable, but yet different. It's good, just not the best. Ms. Hunter is a fantastic writer who sucks you into the world of good and bad vampires. Great character development and flow to the story. I was a title surprised that the main character left his sire though, that did surprise me.

Way Overrated

I purchased this audiobook after reading all the dazzling reviews for the book (and the whole series for that matter) on Amazon. Well, don't believe the hype. This book was mediocre at best. The storyline was nothing original (vampires, blah, blah, blah). The plot took a stumblingly slow and utterly predictable path and the characters fell flat. The narration was horrible. Frankly, there's nothing to miss here.

Our favorite bodyguard Boajia finds his mate

Baojia has been banished from LA for the last 3 years by Don Ernesto Alvarez after his granddaughter Bea was injured. Baojia was guarding Bea when she and her husband Gio traveled to China. But trouble has found Baojia, just over the border in Mexico, and nearby, in the form of sexy Ace Reporter Natalie Ellis.
Pearlman does an ok job of narration.
