Story
All Sergeant Evrial Yara wanted was to protect the young emperor from those plotting to kill him. Joining forces with a group of notorious outlaws wasn’t part of the plan, especially not when one of them is determined to charm her out of her uniform at every turn. Working with the criminals might have been worth it if their efforts had saved the emperor, but it seems he’s not the rightful heir to the throne...Evrial may have thrown away her career for nothing. To make matters worse, fate isn’t going to give her time to calmly decide what to do next.

Story
Telryn "Trip" Yert has always been a little odd, with hunches that are too accurate to explain. Magic is feared and forbidden in Iskandia, so he's struggled his whole life to hide his eccentricities. As a boy, he was forced to watch his mother's execution. Her crime? Witchcraft. Understandably, Trip wants nothing to do with the power that lurks within him, always threatening to reveal itself. Instead, he dedicates himself to serving as an officer in the king's army, to battling pirates and imperial conquerors. He longs to become a soldier as respected and renowned as General Zirkander.

Story
After 10 years at war, Jev Dharrow looks forward to hanging up his sword, relaxing with a cool mug of ale, and forgetting that the love of his life married another man while he was gone. But when his ship sails into port, a beautiful woman wearing the garb of an inquisitor from one of the religious orders waits to arrest him. He’s accused of stealing an ancient artifact with the power to start another war. Jev would gladly hand over the artifact to stop more suffering, but he has no idea where it is or even what it looks like. The inquisitor woman definitely has the wrong person.

I’m Val Thorvald, and I’m an assassin. When magical bad guys hurt people, I take care of them. Permanently. This doesn’t make me popular with the rest of the magical community — as you can tell from the numerous break-ins and assassination attempts I’ve endured over the years. But thanks to my half-elven blood, a powerful sword named Chopper, and a telepathic tiger with an attitude, I’ve always been able to handle my problems with aplomb. Maybe some cursing and swearing, too, but definitely aplomb.

"Ready to die?"

Summary
The last thing Maldynado Montichelu - former aristocrat and current ladies' man - ever wanted was to be left in charge. After all, the team just blew up a train, crashed a dirigible, and kidnapped the emperor. It's kind of an important time. But, with Amaranthe captured by the nefarious Forge coalition, and Sicarius off to find her, the team is lacking in leaders. Also, Sicarius has made it clear that Maldynado's life may be forfeit should anything happen to the emperor while he's gone. To make matters worse, Forge's cutthroats are after Sespian, and the young emperor believes Maldynado's loyalties are suspect. As if it's his fault that his older brother is working with the coalition to usurp the throne.
If Maldynado can't figure out how to earn the emperor's trust quickly, Sespian will go off to confront their powerful enemies on his own. Meanwhile, Amaranthe must find a way to escape from the coalition's newest ally, Master Interrogator Pike, a man who plans to pull all of the secrets from her head, one way or another.

Brilliant series
Lyndsey Burroker never fails to deliver. This book has kept up the pace and interesting story. Her clever use of more formal English for certain characters helps define tham and creates an old world atmosphere.
The narration is well done and the narrator does well to distinguish the different voices.
I can't wait for the next book and will be disappointed when the series ends.

Fun, clean, fast paced
My rating is for the series overall and not necessarily just this entry. Easy going and fast paced. Enjoyed it a lot as a light listen. Brandon Sanderson this is not. But that is what I like. I am only annoyed that they changed the covers of the series after this so I thought this is where the store came to a close. But it does not.

Explosive
Amaranthe has been captured by Master Interrogator/Torturer, Pike, and her secrets will betray the one she loves. Sicarius has tried to follow the Behemoth to free her whilst the rest of the crew go with Sespian to try and keep him safe on his mission.
When he finds her, Amaranthe has wounds all over her body and is running (or maybe I should say hobbling) around naked! Once Pike has been attended to, Sicarius and her make their way up to Maldynado's family estate where a meeting of the founders of Forge is rumoured to be taking place.
I would like to have followed on with Forged in Blood I, but as this book ends on a cliff hanger and there is no Forged in Blood II on the cards at Audible at the moment (even though the whole series is available on Kindle), I will not delve into this book until Audible catches up with this series.

Fantastic Book and Ending
Fantastic book and series, I love how we're finally getting more of the Emperor again. I've missed him since we haven't heard much about him since book 1. I love the series, and am eager for the rest to be available for audiobook. I can tell the new narrator tried hard to use the same style of voices as the first 3 books, and it's a little different at first, but overall, she did a fantastic job keeping the character voices close to the same style. Can't wait for the next book to be out!

Wow! Get this series!
If you could sum up Blood and Betrayal in three words, what would they be?
Exciting, Non-stop Ride!
What did you like best about this story?
I love Sicarius. But I really love all the characters. They are all different, unique and bring something different to the table.
Which scene was your favorite?
When Sicarius makes a choice. (Don't want to give spoilers away.)
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The results of the choice he made and the look on his face and what he did next.
Any additional comments?
I'm here from the Fallen Empire series. I totally loved Leonidas and decided to try another series while I wait for more of those. I'm sorry Leo, but I think Sicarius is my new favorite. The book is non-stop action. A real thrill ride. I can't recommend this series enough. You do need to start from book one or you won't know what's going on. There is also a romance. No instant love, it's been a build up over all 5 books, mainly the last two. I like it. It feels more real. This book revealed quite a bit about Sicarius past and begins to explain why he is what he (an Assassin) is.
The one thing I like is that Sicarius is an Assassin. I don't mean a book that says he's one then he never wants to kill anyone. Sicarius will and does kill. It's because of love that he's trying not to make it his first option but he has a particular skill set and if there is no other way, he will find you, (my best Liam Neeson immigration from Taken) and he will kill you.
Love this series. MORE!
