About this listen

You can't drown the dead.

When the brutally murdered body of a local geography teacher is discovered at Kilwinnoch’s famous beauty spot, Blood Water Falls, the community is rocked to its core. For DCI Duncan Bone, the killing appears to be an open and shut case. But it’s not long before a sinister clue unleashes dark and deadly forces, blowing the investigation wide open, and putting Bone and his team in grave danger.

With the town baying for blood, and too many suspects and not enough answers, DCI Bone faces not only the toughest case of his career, but the battle of his life to defeat the psychological demons determined to destroy him once and for all.

Set among the dramatic hills and glens of Scotland's Campsie Fells, Blood Water Falls is the second in a series of edge-of-your-seat crime thrillers that will keep you guessing right up to the nail-biting, heart-stopping climax.

Perfect for fans of Ian Rankin, J.D. Kirk, Val McDermid and Stuart MacBride.

I gave this series a second chance, and bought this book after thinking book one was definitely not a page turner, but this was worse. The phrase “Bone said” was used so many times even the narrator sounded bored, or it could have been a cut & paste job in the editing. The basic storyline was good, but unbelievable stuff like “the PC blew his whistle” and endless references to things from the 80’s (Bobby Sands) that no book written in the present about the present should contain without totally bewildering any readers under 50! I’ll not be continuing with the series or author.

A fantastic follow up book in the DCI Bone series, following Duncan and his team of detectives, another great fast paced story, with plenty twist and turns, love the naration and the Scots dialect, makes it seem more gritty and real. highly recommended read, looking forward to the 3rd book in the series

the second DCI Bone is as great as the first

Not his best. An unlikely storyline, 3 stars awarded purely based on Steve Worsley's characterisation.

Not the Best

I have enjoyed this book BUT it would have been so much better if at times every comment was not followed by an explanation of who was speaking, often when it was obvious. The constant (he said - she said) distracted from the story (which is good). I have now listened to books one and two and planned to move to the remaining DCI Bone books. I will look for another series/author without the constant identification of who is speaking and how- what a shame!

ENJOYED BUT!!!

Great listen, best narrator ever ! Narrators make or break a book … Steve Worsley is the best

Definitely need more like this…..

I read a review criticising the use of ‘he said, she said, he interrupted, he muttered’ etc etc and I thought it was a bit petty to be honest but it definitely wasn’t. Steve Worsley is a fantastic narrator but it was as if he’d recorded a load of ‘he said, she said’ etc and just inserted them the end of the sentence. It was a very peculiar narration of all of them and there were plenty throughout the book. I nearly gave up at one point because it was driving me mad but I persevered. I just kept imagining Roberta Steele!!!!!

Another great Scottish crime series

I didn’t like the way Bone had become this loud, shouting bully with everyone. It added nothing to the story.

Too frenetic

Great story, familiar author and characters, authentic feel for the environmental landscape of the setting.

Beautifully read

I don’t like Steve Worsley’s narration- I absolutely love it! In fact I searched for a new book that Steve Worsley reads and came across this series and it’s great. The characters are fabulous, there is suspense and delightful humour. Give it a go

Fabulous
