Summary

A gruesome tradition, a blood-spattered crime scene, and a killer hiding in plain sight.

Detective Harry Grimm is a worried man. When a group of vigilante locals start patrolling the Dales in response to a recent spate of crimes, he is forced to warn them off. Things only get more complicated when he is called out to multiple crime scenes—each with plenty of blood but no bodies.

Very soon, though, body parts start turning up. Delivered in a way that echoes a local poem and an old-but-grisly village ceremony. Faced with the bloody evidence in front of him, Grimm soon realizes that his worst fears have come true: someone has already taken the law into their own hands.

With an ancient tradition being used to commit modern-day murder, can this battle-scarred detective stop the lanes of the Dales running red with blood?

Blood Trail is the tenth book in the riveting Harry Grimm police procedural series. If you like compelling characters, twisting plots, and beautiful British countryside settings, then you’ll love David J. Gatward’s nail-biting mystery.

Blood Trail is the tenth book in the DCI Harry Grimm crime thriller series, set in the Yorkshire Dales. Perfect for fans of L. J. Ross, J. D. Kirk, Adam Croft, Simon McCleave, Alex Smith, J. M. Dalgliesh, J. E. Mayhew, and J. R. Ellis.

Excellent

He has done it again! David J. Hayward is a master of storytelling. The poetic descriptions of weather and landscape, beautifully voiced by Aubrey Parsons, provide a softer and soothing contrast to the tension and violence of the crimes Harry Grim and his team are embroiled in.
The relationships are rich and deep and seasoned with banter and good natured teasing.
These books are set in a rural landscape of immense beauty and the descriptions of both the environment and the folk make this reader want to visit there soon, in spite of the gruesome goings on🤗

Disappointed

I have followed this series from the start and downloaded it immediately they became available. But this one really did not meet my expectations, even the narration jarred. It wont stop me getting the next one but the story line needs to be more believable and maybe some of the voices not so annoying.

Janet, Kent

I thoroughly enjoyed book No 10. Cannot wait for book 11. I absolutely love all the characters. Mr Parsons reads the stories so beautifully. I have walked for years in the Dales am glad I have never come across a foot.

Another fantastic book to take you deep into the Wensleydale life. Hooked from the first book, the details are brilliant.
Absolutely love Grimm and the team. I feel like they're a group of friends I've worked with for years.

Long winded

Great narration but what a slow start to storyline.
Read all the series so far and love the characters .
However I wish I had left off listening to this one. Roll on book 11 .

The poorest in the series by far…

I’m a big fan of Gatland and Grimm - and I spent many days in the Dales with my family in my youth; much as the author - but this is a poor story; lots of plot holes tied up up at the end by an implausible conclusion. Come on, David, you can do so much better!Only saved by the narration…..

Coming

Took me a long time to read this because I wasn’t hanging to know the next move. A slow moving story. The audible voices didn’t please me. Too Rough.

It was good

I’ve loved this entire series. However, this one fell a bit short and moved slow until the end. The humor was excellent!!!! I do love Grimm and all the characters. I definitely plan on moving forward with book # 11.

another good book in this series

Lots of depth in the plot an interesting setting where the place is very much a character and a reoccurring one. There are other recurring characters which are like old friends returning to the scenes of the crime. Although the book involves serious crimes it's still does not go ini a real dark direction. A very enjoyable read and listen the narrator has a hard job differentiating characters and does very well with it. I will say that the books would be more enjoyable if you read some of the books from the beginning to understand the backstory.

Love this series!

I have listened to all the Harry Grimm books and love them all! The narrator is amazing and is absolutely perfect in character interpretation. The characters are very human, believable and those on Harry's team are wonderful. The plots are intriguing. Keep 'em coming, Mr. Gatward!

This has become my favorite series in this genre!

I absolutely love this series and I am super happy to hear that David Gatward has plans to continue writing these stories for a good while. They can't come out quick enough for me. I love the descriptions of the Dales and I also love all of the characters. For me it's a bit like a visit with good friends and I can't wait to find out what will happen to them next.

Aubrey Parsons is a wonderful voice actor and his distinctive voices really help the story come to life.

This is another series I really like aside J D Kirk's mystery series. City 'tecs relocated to
deep country cop shops... very interesting country and characters, thoughtful, sometimes fun plots... This "glass hammer" - not a clue BTW- volume ended abruptly with a swear word from me.
- there better be another volume behind this
one. :-) The series I know as "cake and cheese" -- go figure.
