About this listen

Blake's 7 is a much-loved classic TV science fiction series, in which a band of rebels fight the despotic Federation, led by Supreme Commander Servalan. This audio collection features two thrilling full cast BBC Radio 4 adventures.

The Sevenfold Crown
Raiding Servalan's HQ, the crew discover that she possesses a jewel that belongs to an ancient, long-lost crown, a mystical artifact of indescribable power. Suddenly the Scorpio crew are as determined as Servalon to acquire the circlet; but if they do, will absolute power corrupt Avon absolutely?

The Syndeton Experiment
Tired of running, Avon and company plan to settle down on the planet Syndexia. But Servalan is ahead of them, on the trail of the man who invented the nanochip, a device which offers total control over human beings. If Servalan reaches Dr Rossum first, she stands a chance of enslaving a whole population.

Additional Bonus Material
This special edition features bonus interviews with the cast, many taken from the BBC7 programme Zen and the Art of Blake's 7. Amongst those talking about their time on the TV and radio series are Paul Darrow (Avon), Michael Keating (Vila), Jacqueline Pearce (Servalan), Steven Pacey (Tarrant), and Peter Tuddenham (Zen, Orac, and Slave). There are also contributions from loyal fans of Blake's 7, including comedian Mitch Benn.

It was just like the good old days of watching the tv series. If you loved Blake’s 7 you’ll love this.

Loved it

I really enjoyed this as a Blakes 7 fan. The original cast are just delightful. The Sevenfold crown is the best of the 2 stories but a bit too much technobabble. I liked the short cast interviews between the two stories.

Very exciting to have listened to Blake's 7 after all these years. Absolutely well done and enjoyable stories, it took me back to the series.

Took me back to the good old days with great production and some original cast that hammed it up appropriately you will not be disappointed if you loved Blakes 7

Written by my uncle, I cannot be more proud of these. I think they are the most authentic radio series recordings. I love the big finish stuff, but somehow this is just soooo BBC.
Good stories, actors obviously having a whale of a time and the interlude between episodes is great; isn't included on the CD versions I note. I love the little winks at the audience re "old quarries", the digs at Beeb props, and Peter Tuffenham... "Let's do some more" that makes me sad because Big Finish took too long for him to do that.

Just a warning, the interlude between the stories has MAJOR SPOILERS if you are coming to Blakes 7 new. Listen to this after the final episode.

But I will just say that rumours of a certain persons death ARE greatly exaggerated. Thanks for clearing that up Paul. ;)

The magnificent seven!

This is first rate radio sci fi with an excellent cast and two well paced adventures. It's just a shame there isn't more of it! You don't have to be a fan of the series to understand or enjoy these stories, although obviously that adds to the whole expirience.

Better then the TV series?

These were a great listen, having the feel of the series with some of the original cast members. If you like these then try Big Finish range of stories again bringing back the original crew and more besides!

What did you like about this audiobook?

I bought this on a bit of a whim and genuinely wasn't sure it would be any good without the screen shots accompanying the dialogue.

I was so wrong,

How has the book increased your interest in the subject matter?

I'm now looking for more to purchase as I thoroughly enjoyed hearing the full cast perform = those certain nuances& inflections that formed part of the great play between these characters, that only they could achieve has certainly stood the test of time.

Does the author present information in a way that is interesting and insightful, and if so, how does he achieve this?

Little bits have been added t explain what would be visible on tv to fill in gaps that would otherwise exist , they do not stick out and are totally in context,

What did you find wrong about the narrator's performance?

Cast performance - spectacular in my humble opinion

Do you have any additional comments?

yes, Paul Darrow's voice is still utterly wonderful- total "ear candy" as my young niece tells me such yummy voices are now called!

Oh the memories!

Very well put together, sounds just like a soundtrack from an TV episode. Some radio shows can be a bit like they were recorded in a cardboard box. Some of the running time is a documentary. Everyone is great a few substitutes for the original cast but as someone who remembers the series well but not a total fan I didn’t notice. Avon and Villa a great combo. Ruthless and loveable coward.

Just like the TV Show

Hesitated on this due to its duration but it's basically 2 more episodes of blake 7 original cast. Want more!

Too short! Amazing
