Summary

In his first-ever Doctor Who novel, Tom Baker’s incredible imagination is given free rein. A story so epic it was originally intended for the big screen, Scratchman is a gripping, white-knuckle thriller almost forty years in the making.

The Doctor, Harry and Sarah Jane Smith arrive at a remote Scottish island, when their holiday is cut short by the appearance of strange creatures – hideous scarecrows, who are preying on the local population. The islanders are living in fear, and the Doctor vows to save them all. But it doesn’t go to plan – the time travellers have fallen into a trap, and Scratchman is coming for them.

With the fate of the universe hanging in the balance, the Doctor must battle an ancient force from another dimension, one who claims to be the Devil. Scratchman wants to know what the Doctor is most afraid of. And the Doctor’s worst nightmares are coming out to play…

Tom Baker himself reads this legendary Doctor Who adventure, a spine-chilling thriller forty years in the making.

Written by Tom Baker with James Goss Storyline by Tom Baker and Ian Marter Additional voices by Nicholas Briggs

Who could resist?

Tom Baker, Reading, writing, laughing. Totally Who! Great story too, with more twists than a very, very long scarf, and a warm friendliness towards the newest holder of the Tardis key!

Very enjoyable

I got the impression that Mr Baker really enjoyed reading this. A little too much in places but he was clearly grinning throughout the reading and that grin, as always, was infectious beyond belief.

Phenomenal

Tom Baker is brilliant. It's so great to hear him in the role of the doctor again enjoying every second of it and making the narration that more enjoyable. The Story was interesting too & brings to mind the thought provoking & quirky stories of classic who from the 70s by Hinchcliffe & Holmes. If you enjoy the stories of the 4th doctor from T.V then you'll have a brilliant experience. A brand new adventure that never got boring.

Jelly bean?

Loved the fact it was written and read by The Doctor himself, including the extra "You' all enjoy this chapter". When's the next installment?

Tom Baker is wonderful

Tom Baker's narration was excellent throughout, adding his own little chuckles and comments between several sentences. The audiobook was brimming with his personality and made the already incredible story, that bit more incredible. His acknowledgements towards Ian Marter and Elisabeth Sladen at the end were beautiful and emotional, and exclusive to this audiobook reading. Furthermore, the musical interludes and sound effects help bring the story to life and the accurate voices for the Cybermen was an unexpected but appreciated attention to detail!

Classic Who

I had already read this book but couldn't resist the chance to hear Tom Baker read it to me. Beautifully written and narrated by the amazing Fourth Doctor himself, you are transported into a classic Dr Who story from the 70s. I could picture the Doctor, Sarah Jane and Harry vividly in this exciting adventure.

Highly recommended for Dr Who fans.

A must for Tom Baker fans!

Tom Baker is on top form reading his own book in his usual animated style - you can picture his facial expressions as he reads, especially those famous grins! Great story and some of the descriptions are
genuinely creepy. Highly recommended.
