About this listen

It is the 11th day of the school holidays, and Rebecca is bored. Bored. Bored. Bored. But events take a dramatic turn for the better (or worse) when she finds herself transported to a distant planet whose people are terrorized by jelly-like monsters called Ghosts.

Rebecca resolves to sort out their problems. With the help of Grisby, a sore-footed misery boots; Kovak, an out-of-work spy; and Captain 'K', a rather puny superhero, she sets out for the Forbidden Lands in search of a solution. There's only one problem...the evil Mister Glister.

Directed by Lisa Bowerman.

Paul Darrow is a Legend, as is Terry Nation

Paul's acting, rather than just reading, of the story is so entertaining. His James Mason impression for the baddy is so chuckle worthy. The sound effects help you imagine it too. It's such a sweet and very English tale.
Could listen to Darrow's purring voice reading a shopping list and it would be amazing anyway!

My Favourite Children's Book

This was my favourite book and although I still have the book, it's been a pleasure to listen to it. I'm looking forward to playing it to my grandchildren.

Well Read and sound Effects but slightly abridged

Whilst the details say this is unabridged, it has been slightly abridged to work better with the sound effects and more dramatised approach to the production.

Had this story as a 70's child and then found a first edition in a charity shop. It has been read to my children and I enjoyed having it finally read to me..!

Surreal children’s classic ...

Sadly out of print, this fabulously weird children’s book was written by Terry Nation, creator of the Daleks, for his daughter Rebecca. It concerns the eponymous heroine and her adventures in a strange parallel dimension, populated by slithering, jelly-like ghosts. I remember it from childhood, but never got round to reading it. I got this for my daughter, who’s 9, and we listened to it on a car journey just before Christmas. It was perfect for the duration of the trip, and she loved it. Highly recommended.
