About this listen

Blackstone Fortress Book 2

Stripped of his titles and riches, rogue trader Janus Draik leads a desperate expedition into the Blackstone Fortress in an attempt to restore his fortunes and save Precipice from deadly peril.

Listen because....

Get into the heart of Blackstone Fortress and discover the bonds between the explorers in an audiobook packed with action, intrigue and character drama.

The story:

Precipice is dying. For weeks, the space port has been battered by hellish geomagnetic storms, the work of sinister goings-on within the nearby Blackstone Fortress—a vast, ineffable creation that looms in the darkness of the void. Fragile alliances between Precipice’s xenos and human inhabitants crumble as the port’s docking points are destroyed, eroding any hope of escape.

Amid this bedlam, opportunistic rogue trader Janus Draik remains coolly unaffected. As an apocalyptic tempest threatens the life of his crew, Draik bitterly ponders a letter he has received from his father, disowning him and stripping him of his rank, titles and inheritance. In a last-ditch attempt to restore his fortune, Draik unites the disparate adventurers of Precipice to delve even deeper into the mysteries of the Blackstone Fortress. Once there, he learns of a threat that could endanger not just his own future, but the Imperium as a whole. Draik must mend the brittle bonds of trust, loyalty and respect between the survivors to destroy this abominable intelligence and avert disaster.

Written by Darius Hinks. Narrated by Charles Armstrong. Running time 10 hours, 58 minutes (approx).

Quite well written but unfortunately the narrator reads too quickly, feels a little removed from the story and doesn’t really seem to put much into characters.

Reasonable story delivered poorly

Would recommend this for some rare bits of lore on exotic xenos, workings of the blackstone fotress and chaos corruption. The story is nice, gets more interesting in the second half. Some of the lore is crazy and underrated (for sure if if you are into blackstone fotress', zoats or jokaero). Gotta love the tinkerer.

Nice book, great lore niches

Great book and reading, really captures what Warhammer 40000 is. Would like more advantages like this.

Rogue Traders alright

Not to put it too bluntly but I thought the first book was a middling mess and I had very unkind words for it. On a whim I decided to give the second one a go and it's on a different level. Such a dramatic improvement I can hardly believe it's the same author. Well worth your time.

Talk about a step up.

Chapter 3 is a total mess of sound with overlapping dialogue from other chapters, appears nobody bothered to listen through or check for errors before release

Since release the errors in editing have been fixed however the experience soured the book

Currently broken by bad editing (fixed)

The book was great but the version I got kept double playing the audio over itself and chapter 33 was missing enitirely I tried re-downloading and re installing same problem.

Error in my recording

As other reviews have said, there is unfortunately overlapping audio on more than one chapter as well as some chapters that repeat themselves. It breaks immersion and ruins the experience. Hard to recommend until this issue is solved

Badly put together.

I agree with the other reviews. This is broken, with overlapping audio, and repeating chapters. I notified Audible/Amazon several weeks ago, and there has been no resolution or contact since. Though they noted it would take several days to hear back from them, but two weeks is a long time with no word, it is not great. Audible usually has impeccable customer service.

It would be good if they pulled this down until it is fixed. Even Black Library has stopped showing the audiobook in their feed - it is still there if you search for it, but it is no longer marked down as a new release, or featured in any way. This suggests the fault lies with Black Library/Warhammer than with Audible. Still, any action is better than inaction.
