Summary
Joe Gunther is sent to the neighboring town of Bellows Falls to investigate harassment allegations against a fellow officer. But as Gunther doggedly pursues the truth, what begins as a seemingly open-and-shut case starts to look more and more like a frame job, and he soon finds himself feeling around the edges of a statewide drug distribution network.
As always, Vermont itself is a major character in Mayor's writing, with Bellows Falls standing in for any number of slowly decaying, once-proud mill towns.

good story
Another good story in the series, I thought it was very good and am enjoying the Joe Gunther detective style books.

Joe narrowly escapes death again.
I have enjoyed this series and the performance by Tom Taylorson is first rate but I am disappointed that in the last few books Gunther who is by now no spring chicken manages to avoid a grizzly death by almost superhuman effort in ever more complex set pieces. Joe you need to be more circumspect at your age.

Not the best
Think Joe Gunther is starting to think he’s a superhero. Still enjoyable enough to pass a few hours. The most abrupt end to date and author still telling us about the book at the beginning! Note to authors, if you want to add explanations please do it at the end!

my favourite so far!
Enjoyed the descriptive passages about the geography, landscape and history of the places. Personally I like the chase scenes less but it gives a balance to the slower pace chapters. Very engaging and narrator is really one of the best.

Consistently good but not predictable
I Like Archer Mayor . No ridiculous super heroes and exaggerated plots . Creates a compelling intelligent main character . Always a pleasure to read
