About this listen
"I remained, lost in oblivion; My face I reclined on the Beloved. All ceased and I abandoned myself, Leaving my cares forgotten among the lillies." Thus writes 16th century Spanish poet and mystic, St. John of the Cross. In this, his third work, the author reflects on the nature of a personal union with Christ, found in the abandonment of self.

really well read. difficult book but worth it
this 8s not John of tge Crosses easiest or livliest book but it is a foundation for his later works and important. the tone is rather ascetic and world deneying but there is much wisdom. he shows all the obstacles on the way but you have to wait till his later books to hear about where the way leads. in this book he just makes sure you are not going down dead ends. this Audible version is brilliantly read, so clear and with understanding. one of the best readings of a book on Audible, and such a hard book to read. easuer now to listen to it.

Adore the book awful narration
The narrators diction is clear but too clipped & plumby RP British accent & emotionally matter of fact a read for me; like an old school BBC news reader delivering a report; or a teacher giving mere facts for such an emotive, inspirational, spiritual subject/ book; so decided best to read it myself slowly using my own inner voice so returned it & bought the Kindle full works of St. John of the cross for less than £1.
