Not as enjoyable as Ice Station
I could only give this a 3 stars a good performance from Sean Mangan quite enjoying his narration. However I felt that the story was ok, but a bit lacking cant really put my finger on it. But after Ice Station it was a little disappointing maybe I expected to much, certainly not a bad book and an easy listen. I am going to see what the next book in the series is like….! Quite like the characters in these books and plenty of action, certainly not boring. 😀

Area 7 lacks something
Having read three Reilly books previous to this title. I enjoyed Contest a great first book, but sadly found his Seven Ancient Wonders series wanting. I would regard Area 7 at an uncomfortable middle ground between the two. This novel would make a great film, as most Reilly books would. I feel that in this case as with most of his books they lack something as a novelist. Reilly is of course great at keeping the pace and tension in the novel and writes very, very film orientated. Sadly when Reilly describes a scene with 'They saw a truly awsome sight' as he did in Seven ancient Wonders, a prose he continued in Area 7. I feel he lacks the technical skill of Clancy. If audable included Ton Clancy as a substitute I would definetly choose that master of over Reilly any day of the week. A compliment Reilly would not be offended by as Clancy is Reilly's inspiration and all time hero. If he reads this no offence mate, I will try another Reilly book and hopes his skill improves.

forgot this is fiction
Would you listen to Area 7 again? Why?
I never do a review untill I have listened to the book twice, I am at the moment going through some of the books I enjoyed the first read & remembered it.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Area 7?
The research that must of gone into this book, I will not spoil the listeners enjoyment by telling parts of the book, just that it is an excellent & exciting book.
What about Sean Mangan’s performance did you like?
excellent, clear and goes with the mood of the book well
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
most certainly, I don't always get that kind of chance, but I love the feeling of some thing to look forward to, at a second reading, by this I mean the second part of the book.
Any additional comments?
I think I have said all I need with out giving away any of the story, I hate it if I know too much. It is an excellent thriller all I will say is, very exciting.

An 11 Hour Captain America Comic Book
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
complete with "Biff" "Bang!" "Swoosh!" "Clang!" "Snap!" "Slap!" "Boom!" and even an - no I'm not kidding - "Holy Batman" line. I don't know who would enjoy this book, but they have my condolences for trying.
What could Matthew Reilly have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Write a believable, or at least SOMEWHAT believable book. This was really nothing more than comic strip super hero takes on notorious bad guy and a couple hundred of his henchmen almost single handily, kicks their butts, saves the world and gets the girl in the end. It's just silly from start to finish.
Which scene was your favorite?
The whole thing just runs together, one big race from start to finish
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
The narrator did a very good job. If it wasn't for him, I would have turned the book off an hour into it.

Over the top action
Area 7 once again contains over the top action scenes, an unbelievable plot and the awesome Shane "Scarecrow" Schofield and his team of marines, including Buck "Book II" Riley the son of Buck "Book" Riley Senior who died in Ice Station. It is read by Sean Mangan who reads nearly all the Matthew Reilly books and who gives an excellent performance in all of them. Scarecrow and his team need to keep the President alive to prevent most of the Northern United States from been blown up. They also need to fight against a rogue military unit led by a supposedly dead racist military genius, fight against the countries most dangerous criminals including a cannibal serial killer and prevent a sino-virus been unloaded on the world, whilst also protecting the vaccine, a clone named Kevin. This is a typical Matthew Reilly book, fast-paced and just a great fun read and listen.

The space flight.

The hanger scene.

No
