About this listen
Sir Roger Parkes is a man of some influence in the West Country. When he loses touch with his youngest daughter, he has a word with the Assistant Chief Constable of the local force. It's not a police matter, he is told, but if Sir Roger wants to pursue it privately, there is a lady who might be able to help-two of them, actually.
As far as Summer Lane is concerned, she has enough problems without going into the investigations business with her next door neighbor; Mrs. Emily Willows's problems all seem to center around the fact that her neighbor is refusing to go into the investigations business with her. They have reached, it seems, an impasse. Until, that is, Emily notices that someone has left a message on her answering machine . . .

Best of the series so far
Thought the story was very good and well balanced. There was a sense of realistic jeopardy without it being over the top.

Well written, tense, but you always feel Lane has got this!
I really liked how the story built, and the exploration of the continuing relationship of the main characters. Maybe dial down on the references to Emily’s age, she may be retired but it’s only just and therefore she really isn’t ‘elderly’ at all, but has been called that rather a lot. Contrary to some comments I’ve seen, I thought the narrator was engaging and slipped into different accents with ease.

Thought provoking
Easy to see how/why these groups survive, rather disconcerting. Nice to see the team develop

Enjoyable read
Read all three Willows and Lane books in quick succession: gripping action, likeable protagonists. Enjoyed stories that find purpose for people

Very much enjoyed
I really feel I know the characters. It’s not often a series of books that really appeal. Love Summer Laine and her personality. Hope there will be more.

Narrator spoils an otherwise good tale.
Henrietta Meare seems to be in a constant hurry to get to the end of her sentences. It’s so rushed and almost garbled, I felt I needed to take a breath on her behalf. Pity, Gildart Jackson (who narrates most of Peter Grainger’s other books) is so much better.

Love these stories
However, I did find it a bit confusing at the beginning with the jumping back and forth, but it sorted itself out. Looking forward to the next instalment I hope!
