Summary

When Gemma’s romantic holiday with her boyfriend is cancelled, the tearoom sleuth finds herself heading to Vienna instead with her cat Muesli and the nosy Old Biddies for company. And it’s not long before they stumble across a murder right in the heart of Austria’s historic capital.

A handsome art critic dies suspiciously at their hotel, and the Old Biddies are determined to sniff out the killer. Is it the bitter hotel owner nursing a grudge? The critic’s jealous mistress wanting revenge? Or even the American horse trainer who seems inexplicably nervous around the police?

Soon Gemma is dragged into an impromptu investigation which has her tackling Vienna’s famous pastries, snooping in police files and even braving a nude sauna in search of clues!

But can she sort the suspects from the Schnitzel and solve the mystery before the killer strikes again?

Excellent

Another excellent story, such depth of characters, intertwining beautifully with thought provoking moments. Pearl Hewitt is superb. Her accents are amazing. She makes the stories come to life. Can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

Wonderful escapism!

I loved every minute of this book. I listened to it throughout Christmas day. It made me want to visit Vienna again. How Gemma can eat so many cakes but still squeeze through small spaces is a mystery in itself. The plot was tight. As usual it was well read with an excellent range of voices. The author always seems to include a very annoying character. I suspected who the murderer was going to be but I didn't guess the motive. The description of the horses and the Klimt Kiss and Muesli enhanced the story.

Yet another lovely story. Beautifully read by Pearl Hewitt. Even Muesli the car gets to go to Vienna. Well done again H Y Hanna.

Let's go back to Oxford please

I have loved all of these quaint stories, they have been real quintessential English escapism during these days of limited and reduced freedom and liberties.
That is why this one was rather disappointing. Whilst the description of Vienna was vivid, I missed England! I missed Cathy, Devlin and Gemma's mother.
If I had known this before ordering I would have given it a miss.

Somewhere different....

A completely different location for this story, beautifully written and described . I enjoyed listening to the treats served in the other country. Also the sound of the magnificent horse display, made me feel like I was almost there.
Another must to listen to .

Humorous

I have read the series, and I have found this one the funniest, although they are not situated in the comforts of oxford and the tearoom, the humour and new sew settings adds a new dimension to the novel, I really enjoyed it.

Nice but not my favourite

I have listened to 8 books now and this was my least favourite.

It's set in Vienna; which is a good idea to give a change of scene. She takes her cat wth her on holiday (I don't believe anyone would do that and let them out in the street etc). There is an incident and suspects. I didn't care for any of them; and found the storyline dull.

Nowhere near enough of the old biddies or Gemma's mum.
