Summary

You are NOT who you think you are. In fact, according to best-selling author Craig Groeschel in Altar Ego, you need to take your idea of your own identity, lay it down on the altar, and sacrifice it. Give it to God. Offer it up.

Why? Because you are who God says you are. And until you’ve sacrificed your broken concept of your identity, you won’t become who you are meant to be.

When we place our false labels and self-deception on the altar of God’s truth, we discover who we really are as his sons and daughters. Instead of an outward-driven, approval-based ego, we learn to live with an "altar" ego, God’s vision of who we are becoming.

Discover how to trade in your broken ego and unleash your altar ego to become a living sacrifice. Once we know our true identity and are growing in our Christ-like character, then we can behave accordingly, with bold behavior, bold prayers, bold words, and bold obedience.

Altar Ego reveals who God says you are, and then calls you to live up to it.

Excellent!

Each chapter has lots of nuggets of wisdom. It flows well and the narration kept my attention. He is refreshing honest. His vulnerability, his laugh out loud humour (in parts) and sprinkled with stories where Craig has witnessed God moving in people’s lives makes this empowering book for me a joy to listen to. Great read.

Challenging and engaging

What does Craig Groeschel bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

It was good having the author read the book. It made the transparent parts of the book believable.

What did you learn from Altar Ego that you would use in your daily life?

I was reminded and challenged by the idea that I'm an ambassador for Christ and that makes me the highest ranking official of His kingdom in my sphere of influence.

Simple and Anointed

At first I found that even that is very inspiring and very well narrated it was nothing really new. to me. I have been a Christian for 36 years , however sometimes is not about the new but about the anointing of the author. Pastor Craig. is an annointed man of God that you want to listen more than once.

I re-listened the book and found it more inspiring the second time. As Christians we need continual reminders of our identify and character in Christ. It is easy to fool ourselves with head knowledge when we actually need to live it.

May favorite chapters are the ones on boldness.

Abundant blessings beyond belief

This was my third book to listen to, By Craig Groeschel. I started the year thinking my business growth was limited. I wondered whether or not I would be able to meet my personal and business goals. My life seemed stagnant. I have faith but, this book taught me to be bold in my faith. Through Christ, I have had the most abundant year of growth I could ever expect. I have boldly asked God to bless us and change my heart so that I would expect His blessings. He has do e just that. I have shared my testimony with my business coach, who I never discussed Christ with, because he asked me what I was doing differently. I explained that I was simply asking God to lead me and bless my business. Thank you, Craig, for restoring my faith and giving me the courage to be bold in my faith.

Must read!

Just when I needed to hear the words in chapter 10, Craig read them to me. This is an excellent book that I would highly recommend to everyone.

Poor performance

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The book is a good story and somewhat worth the time. However, the author begins to repeat himself toward the end of the book.

What could Craig Groeschel have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Remove some of the redundancy.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator smacks his lips between words. Really annoying!

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No
