Story
Dr. James Hagen thought he'd bid the Paranormal Security and Intelligence Agency good riddance nearly 10 years back. He'd been an operative with them for so long that carving out a new path in life had taken time, but he'd achieved it. He'd made it his mission in life to help the wayward find a path again, to help those who couldn't help themselves.

Genetically altered into a super soldier who can shift into a wolf, Casey Black should have been the perfect asset - but that wasn't to be. The scientists who conducted DNA splicing experiments on him put a little too much wolf in his cocktail. Considered a danger to society and a risk to the survival of the secret project, the government tried to eliminate him. The former Immortal Operative has spent the majority of his life on the run and off the grid from the very government who'd helped him be 'all he could be'.

Total surrender doesn't come easy to a natural-born alpha. Shape-shifting special operative Brad Durant has been held against his will by the enemy for nearly a year. He's given up hope and is fast giving up his will to survive - that is, until a hot-tempered, redheaded succubus is placed in the cell next to his. She calls to his wolf on a primitive level and he won't let anyone or anything harm her. Giving his body to the little minx is easy, but guarding his heart is much harder.

Summary
Paranormal Security and Intelligence Operative Duke Marlow has a new mission: find, interrogate and possibly eliminate the target - Mercy Deluca. He knows looks can be deceiving, but it's hard to believe the beautifully quirky woman running around in a superhero t-shirt is a viable threat. The sexy little biomedical engineer quickly proves she is more than he bargained for and Intel has it all wrong - she's not the enemy. Far from it. Intel also forgot to mention one vital piece of information - she's Duke's mate. This immortal alpha werewolf doesn't take kindly to her being in danger.
When Mercy accepted a position within Donavon Dynamics Corporation, she thought it was to help cure disease and to make a difference for mankind. She had no idea what her new career path truly entailed - monsters masquerading under the guise of scientific research. Unable to stomach the atrocities she's uncovered, she reaches out through what she hopes is the proper channels, asking for help. Mercy gets more than she bargained for when a team of paranormal hotties show up on her doorstep ready to take down the Corporation. One in particular is able to get under her skin, both aggravating and exciting her in ways she can't explain.

Offbeat and Refreshing!
I love Mandy's books because of her characters. Duke Marlow is the guy who's just upset with and annoyed by everything, yet, meeting his mate brings out a softer side to his personality (at least this is how is saw it). Mercy on the other hand is completely offbeat, and marches to the beat of her own drum. But meeting her mate, somehow grounds her, or at least helps ground her. It's fascinating to see how Mandy can bring the most unlikely people together, where they play off each others strengths and weaknesses.
As for the story, we begin to learn more about the nefarious activities of the Corporation, a running theme throughout the series. We are also introduced to new characters within the PSI - Ops team. It's refreshing to read a story that has these large story arcs, yet tie in lots of detail along the way. It is wonderfully done and well thought through. Mandy's books always leave you wanting more. And you fall in love with every character.

Love It! Humor, Action, and Romance!
This was my first book by Mandy M. Roth's, and it exceeded my expectations! I loved everything about Act of Mercy; the characters, plot, witty dialogue, action, romance and narration. I especially liked the colorful cast of characters, and their playful bantering with each other. Duke and Mercy may have been as different as night and day, but were true mates. It was HILARIOUS when these two first met. However, I do wish the story could have been a little bit longer. Mandy did such a great job creating the characters and plot, I wanted to hear more, and was not ready for the story to end. I do plan on listening to the others in the series.
The narration was AWESOME! I've listen to Mason Lloyd narrate different types of romances and while this story may be part of his earlier performances, it "show cases" his talent. I loved how he was able to perform the wide range of characters, along with their various accents and emotions smoothly. His performance really enhanced the overall audiobook experience.

Simple, And Not In A Good Way
Any additional comments?
I found this short novel to be simplistic -- almost as though the author came up with a single plot idea and then never developed it beyond that. We spent way too much time in the heads of the two protagonists -- hashing and re-hashing everything. It was almost like she was trying to stretch the narrative because of the lack of story line. About half-way through I started wondering if anything would ever happen or if the two of them would just continue to think about it over and over.
The reader had a strange delivery. I started imagining him narrating old educational movies like we used to watch in school or an old natural documentary. And I know it's difficult for one gender to read the other speaking, but his interpretation of Mercy was just awful. She sounded childish and insipid.
I'm thinking pretty seriously of taking Audible up on their money-back guarantee for this book.

Action Packed
Loved this book. The story was great and the characters were well developed. The narrator brought the characters to life. Mason Lloyd is a great narrator. this was the first book that i have read in this series. I will be reading/listening to more of this series.
The Psi ops are a group of soldier that are different types of shifters/paranormal guys. This story is about Duke who is kinda of arrogant, don't like computers, flying etc. He hates most everything. Then they gone a rescue mission in Paris after receiving information about a company that is experimenting with humans, animals and shifters. One of there friends is a prisoner there and one of the scientist doctors, Merci, finds out what is going on and befriends their friend James. She is determined to save him and the others being experimented on including animals. Duke soon learns she is his mate. They both are attracted to each when he has to save her right after they got to Paris from the company she works for. They sent assassins to kill her at her apartment.
Mercy is not a pushover. She is brave and does not mind going into danger along with the "boys."
Later you find out that Mercy is more than human. She is not even aware she pixie blood in her.
I can't wait to read the stories about all the other characters especially Striker. He is funny. Loved the accent.
I recommend this book and this series.

Read/listen to the previous series first
This was a decent book. I found the heroine hard to be believable. For someone who's supposed to be a genius, she sure didn't show a lot of brain power, and I never was sure what her field was supposed to be - electronics? hacking? biomedicine?
Duke was awesome. From the very beginning scene we are shown his quirks when it comes to technology. I liked that he was finally paired with a woman who is his exact opposite. I do wish we could have seem them clashing more in this aspect.
I haven't read any of the other books, so I did feel lost at times. My overall rating is a 3.5 stars; however, I raised that to a 4 because I do think those who have read the previous series would get a lot more out of this.

Mercy for Duke
You start the story with Duke, a werewolf, who is a PSI-Op, and is typing up a report for a mission he just went out on. He hates just about everything, especially technology. While he is typing he receive a call from a woman, he doesn't know it yet but it is his mate Mercy, calling to verify that they received her information. He thinks it is a prank, acts like a jerk, and hangs up.
Mercy is a doctor, a tech- guru, and works for the Corporation. She doesn't know what she is but knows that there is a genetic abnormality with her DNA (we later find out she is part pixie). When she got hired on she did not realize how evil they were and is doing everything possible to bring them down. She will not leave until she can save James Hagan, who use to be a PSI-Op with Duke.
I love the way they interact. Duke can't help but be himself, a crabby jerk, and Mercy is very brilliant but absent minded because of all the thoughts going through her mind. You meet the PSI- Ops in this book and there is a lot of back and forth, it is hilarious. Also, the interaction between Duke and Mercy is steamy and funny. One of my favorite parts of the story is when Duke "threatens" to show Mercy his penis if she keeps staring and she tells him to go ahead and show her, not phased one bit.
The narration was great. I think Mason Lloyd did a great job as usual. I love his Scottish accent.

Act of Mercy
Where does Act of Mercy rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I have only listened to a few audiobooks so far. I enjoyed this a great deal.
What did you like best about this story?
I liked that I was able to work on other things while listening to the book. There was a great sense of freedom that is much different then holding the kindle/book in your hand.
