Summary

It was the ideal marriage of convenience...until they met.

Cassandra DeWitt has seen her husband only once - on their wedding day two years earlier - and this arrangement suits her perfectly. She has no interest in the rude, badly behaved man she married only to secure her inheritance. She certainly has no interest in his ban on her going to London. Why, he’ll never even know she is there.

Until he shows up in London too, and Cassandra finds herself sharing a house with the most infuriating man in England.

Joshua DeWitt has his life exactly how he wants it. He has no need of a wife disrupting everything, especially a wife intent on reforming his behavior. He certainly has no need of a wife who is intolerably amiable, insufferably reasonable...and irresistibly kissable.

As the unlikely couple team up to battle a malicious lawsuit and launch Cassandra’s wayward sister, passion flares between them. Soon the day must come for them to part...but what if one of them wants their marriage to become real?

Hilarious, heartrending, and hot, this standalone Regency romance tells the story of a marriage of convenience between opposites.

Great story…

I loved the plot - great story !!!

Unfortunately modern authors seem to believe that a novel is only good when they add endless “soft porn”

Sorry to say - but I disagree!

😂 makes me sound and look like a prude - which I am NOT … but personally I find it tiresome in a great story to be bored by endless porn - which takes away from the plot and one cannot wait to hear the story to continue.

For this reason - and only for this reason I deducted two stars 🌟 ⭐️ from the overall…

Wonderful

Mia Vinci has written a wonderful romance that’s up there with some of my favourite stories by the likes of Kleypas and Balogh. It’s a keeper and I know I’ll be re-reading it. I’ve jumped straight to amazon to buy her next book. Cassandra and Joshua are both endearing likeable characters and their teasing banter is laugh out loud funny. That said the story has it’s poignant moments, Joshua’s visit to the orphanage had me in tears. I’d also like to compliment Kate Reading for her excellent narration. There was none of that irritating, overly arch tone that can sometimes creep into historical romance narration.

None of the characters are likeable.

The heroine is a pathetic, desperate female. She optimises the abused woman. Her family has started the downward trend. She expects no more from anyone else. She has excuses for everyone's bad behaviour.
He is a spoilt child who has never grown up and is full of self-pity. He is bad mannered and has temper tantrums. His money allows him to be badly behaved as rude as he wants. His humour is cruel and pitifully, and it makes one wonder what a sad jerk he represents. The only pleasant people are the secretaries. The rest are totally over the top and unpleasant.
Don't waste your credit.

Predictable outcome

Book is an easy listen, though rather plodding at times, he said/she said/he thought/she thought etc. . Bedroom scenes a little steamy, definitely not in the vein of Georgette Heyer! I was ready to shake Joshua & Cassandra for being so idiotic at times. There was no doubting the outcome of the book: a bit of editing would have helped as I felt it dragged on a bit. That said I listened to the whole book and will try another of the author’s book sometime.

I loved the story, however I wasn't to keen on the narrators voice. Overall the story was fun witty and different.

A book I can listen too many times and still enjoy it as the first time.

I loved how well it are captured the masks and misconceptions we have when we think we know our partner. Love, humor, real and witty.

Narration was amazing

The story line was unique and well formulated. We could have done without the last tragedy tbh I feel like Joshua has been through enough
Surely some other event could have brought them together in the end but nonetheless, I really enjoyed this book. Definitely worth a listen.

Lovely story, beautifully performed

Lovely characters and a beautiful performance. Although it was hard to believe a man would ever think or speak like Joshua in those times I was happy to suspend my disbelief as he was such an engaging character. The same was true of Cassandra who did make me laugh out loud.
