About this listen

The Sheedy sisters had lived in Stone House for as long as anyone could remember. Set high on the cliffs on the west coast of Ireland, overlooking the windswept Atlantic ocean, it was falling into disrepair - until one woman, with a past she needed to forget, breathed new life into the place. Now a hotel, with a big, warm kitchen and log fires, it provides a welcome few can resist.

Winnie is generally able to make the best of things until she finds herself on the holiday from hell. John arrived on an impulse after he missed a flight at Shannon. And then there's Henry and Nicola, burdened with a terrible secret, who are hoping the break at Stone House will help them find a way to face the future....

This wasn't one of my favourites and I'musually easy to please. The characters were well described and the book was well read but I found myself constantly waiting for the story to come together. With about 15 minutes till the end it kind of comes together but in a disappointing way. It's more like lots of short stories that are started but not finished. There's even one or two characters that were described in great detail but the storyline just stops and they don't even make it to the end. I had to continue listening because I wanted to see where it was all going but it really was a disappointment in the end.

Waited for the story to come together

The narrators accents were annoying. The mini stories were mostly uninteresting and did not capture my empathy in the slightest. I struggled to finish this.

Not the best read.

What a wonderful story following the lives of various characters who happen to come together in a new guest house. Maeve Binchy has such a beautifull way of building up her colourful characters!

The narration was spot on. I've always found Kate Binchy's narration of her cousin's work a great listen, but Caroline Lennon did the novel perfect justice!

Rest in Peace, Maeve Binchy. I have loved your writing for years , and will continue to re-read / re-listen again and again.

Wonderful as always, Maeve!

Wasn't sure if I would like the format of short stories. But Maeve Binchy books never cease to deliver. All the characters connect and still have an individual story view. I loved this book and if there was anything I didn't like ... it was just not long enough.
Always Maeve Binchy books are a first class read or listen

I have never listened to a Maeve Binchy novel before. I enjoyed it so much I will definitely recommend it to others. Unlike other novels this is set in winter and is great to listen to curled up in front of the fire. I can smell the Irish sea air just listening to it.

Excellent winter listening

the narrator is a good one, always good. another lovely book .. the story was full of warmth, even the sad bits were gripping. Read this when the weather was bad in front of a coal fire doing some sewing, bliss.... can't wait for my next read.

Great characters

This was a nice, wee story about a woman opening a hotel right on the cliff of a storm-beaten part of the Irish coast.

You learn her story on the week running up to the grand opening and then the stories of each guest. There's something about an Irish accent that always feels so comforting, I don't know why! Listening to this while the gales are raging outside was perfect afternoon fodder.

Snuggle in against the cold

I thoroughly enjoyed this gentle thoughtful book. Very easy listening, I thought the narrator was excellent.

Lovely relaxing listen

I haven't been so engrossed in a book as in this one, for a long time. I loved every minute of it, and it is so excellently narrated in that beautiful soft Irish brogue that is so easy to listen to. I can totally recommend A Week In Winter, wholeheartedly.

So Very Very Enjoyable
