Summary
What if Mr Darcy’s first proposal was interrupted by a bearer of ill tidings? The worst tidings: An elopement!
Ah, but whose elopement would allow Elizabeth and Mr Darcy to spend quite so much time together and overcome their prejudices and his stubborn pride?

Enjoyable
A sweet variation well narrated. Darcy has s relatively easy time of it and Wickham is not a villain for a change.

Brilliant story
Such a lovely story, with perfect pace and characterisation, read so clearly.
It is great to have both sides of the story at different times, to get a deeper understanding of the motivations of the couple.

Another great story
A very enjoyable, low angst book from one of my favourite writers. Darcy was fortunately interrupted in his proposal before he managed to say too much. And Elizabeth learned the truth about Wickham early enough to start changing her opinion. I loved their interactions, she considering his feelings and learning about different facets of his character. He willfully blind to the reasons why he loved her and not understanding what made her unique and the reasons for her disappointment. His behaviour was sometimes infuriating, in some moments amusing. I loved the colonel trying to get the truth through Darcy's thick skull. Luckily he was able to have a epiphany and throw away his first circles arrogance and pride.
I enjoyed Ann's story and I suspected what the ending would be. Lady Catherine was her usual obnoxious self, but she had a lesson to learn as well.
Stevie Zimmerman 's narration was perfect as usual. Her Elizabeth always sounds the way I would imagine her and Darcy's voice is so masculine. I love Darcy and Lizzy's romantic scenes, his voice sounds so gentle and caressing.
Highly recommended.

Turnabout is fair play.😆
Joana has done it again. Even though we know where the story will end up, we don't know how. I found myself laughing with joy at the clever workings of her mind with this new incarnation. Stevie is a wonderful storyteller, I want her to read all my books to me. This book is shear delight🤗♥️🤗

A Few Interesting Changes
This story, as you know from the summary, starts in the middle of the proposal, which does not go well, but not as badly as you may remember. There are a couple of other changes to the fate of some key characters but, with the brief exception of Lady Catherine being much more involved with Lizzy, and a surprise from Lady Ann, the changes only serve to give us a little more time to know the cast.
Stevie Zimmerman is, once again, perfect! She is one of my favorites to perform JAFF. She has a wonderful voice for Lizzy, yet can still make Darcy sound very masculine.

Lack luster
This variation lacks the transformative events that mark most p&p stories. Darcy does not rescue Lydia or Elizabeth. There is no cat fight with Elizabeth and Lady Catherine. Elizabeth does not even put Caroline in her place. The characters develop through these scenes. They discover their own pride, prejudice and backbone. In essence, all the best elements are missing.

Re-read - great book
Now I have listened to it too. Great book. Anne’s elopement interrupts mr Darcy’s proposal to Elizabeth at Hunsford. They meet again in London. There is some competition as well. Great read.

Outstanding!
I loved this novel when I read it in the spring, and I enjoyed it very much in audiobook. Stevie Zimmerman is a talented voice actress that pairs well with the rhythm of Joana Starnes’s brilliant prose. Not to be missed if you are looking for your next Darcy and Elizabeth fix!

What a great twist on the original!
Oh, what fun this one was! Perfect capture of Austen's own voice, and I just bet she would find humour in it herself!

Entertaining variation
An interesting “Pride and Prejudice” variation narrated by the wonderful Stevie Zimmerman! The plot was not as intricate and well-developed as some variations I’ve read but it was still very entertaining and I enjoyed the book!

Perfectly “Slow burn”
Wonderful! Such great, natural progression of Elizabeth’s love. I felt it was totally believable, and charming. Brilliant!

Enjoyed the twists on this variation
This is my second P&P variation by Ms. Starnes. I really enjoyed the believable variation on the “minor” characters and feel this really added to the storyline.
Hint, things are not always as they appear….
The conversations between Elizabeth and Mr Darcy make it feel as though the ready been given a glimpse into their lives and time period. I enjoyed watching as their relationship grew.
I’ve purchased every variation…. I am addicted. I’m going to have to listen to a true crime story next, because I am finding myself thinking in Ms Bennett’s time period, and I can hear the words and voice of Lady Catherine, who by the way is an absolute joy to see “bested”.
