Summary
When Alice Verinder’s beloved sister Lydia goes missing, Alice boards the Orient Express bound for Topkapi Palace in Constantinople, determined to find her. Lydia was governess to the Sultan’s young children and though her letters spoke of exotic delights and welcoming hosts, the reception Alice receives is decidedly cold and answers unforthcoming.
Now, as Alice digs deeper into the secrets of a land foreign to her, she has only Englishman Harry Frome to help her. But as their search uncovers unforeseen dangers and exposes an unexpected ardour, is Alice ready for the truths they’ll uncover?

A great companion story for driving and walking
A really good historical narrative with loads of intrigue and suspense. You think you guessed the truth only to discover another level of deceit being uncovered. A great listen.

Really enjoyed, a little different to the usual.
Really enjoyed this audio book, a little different to the usual. Set in Constantinoble (Istanbul) a good idea for a story. When in danger I wish the narrator had conveyed that in the voices, but very enjoyable.

Riveting
As others have said, this story is unputdownable. Ms Allingham writes beautifully and with much description, it allows you to conjure the story in your mind’s eye. There is some sorrow in the story as well as happiness and at a certain point I think one could anticipate how the story would end, but all in all a very enjoyable story and excellent narration.

1st read by the author
I didn't know what to expect and I have little knowledge of Ottoman Turkish life. The book is engaging and I have to say I had to hold my breath hoping for the heroine and hero. Immensely entertaining.

Beautiful Mystery
Beautiful mystery taking place in the early 1900’s. Twists and turns to the very end that kept you guessing . Narrator did a wonderful job with voices. I will be looking for more by the author and narrator .

Enjoyable
I picked this book for it title and hoped that it was a good listen/read and I wasn’t disappointed. It had enough adventure for me without triggering some of my trauma. I enjoyed the story and didn’t want it to end. Will definitely listen to it again.
