Summary

The electrifying new thriller from Shari Lapena, author of the Sunday Times best seller The Couple Next Door.

Why would you run scared from a happy home?

You're waiting for your beloved husband to get home from work. You're making dinner, looking forward to hearing about his day.

That's the last thing you remember.

You wake up in hospital, with no idea how you got there. They tell you that you were in an accident; you lost control of your car whilst driving in a dangerous part of town.

The police suspect you were up to no good. But your husband refuses to believe it. Your best friend isn't so sure. And even you don't know what to believe....

Kept me guessing until the end.

I enjoyed this, I didn't particularly like or engage with any of the characters but the plot twists are clever and will keep you guessing.

Gripping

I read the couple next door and this, in a similar vein keeps the reader gripped until the last sentence. I didn't enjoy the narrator so much to begin with, but that is personal taste.

Gripping storyline

Really enjoyed this, such a gripping storyline where you constantly question who did it, kept me guessing till the end. Very well read too.

Okay, but drags.

I'm writing this half way through. I'm trying to resist just putting this down. It's not gripping me, and I'm fairly bored.
It's seems to drag along, and some of the character's arguments are irritating. It also feels like it's been too long before the story advances anywhere. I'm finding myself checking what chapter I'm on and how much I've got left.
l'd like to know what happens though, it's a fairly interesting premise.

... I have since finished it. I listened to the last bit with double narration speed to get through it. I didn't expect the twist at the end, and I did quite like the ending.
I wouldn't ever re-read this one.

Ok. Was hoping for better following The Couple Next Door

It reads like a play, and has a good pace and voice. Stilted characters, flat dialogue, and I wonder if that is intentional to keep the mystery element front and centre. There’s suspense and good twists. I was Intrigued to a point, but I fear I will forget this book by next week. I’ll still probably order the authors new book though.

Fairly predictable

Quite an interesting story with a twist. A little bit puzzling characters not really believable.
