Summary
Mike Gayle: emotions you'll never forget, stories you'll want to share.
Helen and Ben parted as heartbroken 18-year-olds and went their very separate ways.
Twenty years later, mother-of-two-teenagers Helen is still in Manchester, a part-time primary teacher, stunned by the behaviour of her love-rat husband. In an old T shirt and scruffy jeans, she feels at the lowest point in her life.
And suddenly, impossibly, Ben is standing on her doorstep. Tired maybe, lonely even, but clearly still the world-famous, LA-based multi-millionaire rockstar he has become.
Can you ever go back?
For Helen and Ben, so much has happened in the years between. But just to sit in the kitchen for a while and talk - that would be nice.
Before the world comes crashing in.
Friendship, love, heartache and hope collide in this unforgettable emotional journey, from the author of Half a World Away.

Light and easy read
Not as good as some of his others. A little twee and predictable, did not raise much emotion for me

Truly beautiful
What a wonderful story, Mike does it again! I loved this story, wasn't expecting the twist Thank you Mike you must really understand people and all their feelings, imperfections and different layers to write something so wonderful! It was just over too soon! Narrator was brilliant too! Highly recommended!

Fantastic!
Mike Gayle's stories never disappoint.
I got so engrossed that I started it Saturday morning and had finished it by 6pm Sunday!!! It was an emotional story but also heart warming and funny at times. I can't wait to start another.

Enjoyable story; interesting twists
A good story as always from Mike Gayle, well read by Gabrielle Nellie-Pain (5*) but far less so by Chris Machari (3*). I thoroughly enjoyed all characters as rendered by Gabrielle, but the switch in their “voices” to Chris’ versions was an unnecessary distraction, and his characterisation and narrative style was far less successful. Leave it to Gabrielle next time.

Love the fact this was not your tipical romance.
This was a really grate book, it’s the first book I’ve read by this author but will think about reading more in the future for sure.
This was the story of Helen and Ben, they were lovers at 18 but then there lives took different turns. Helen is a part time teacher recovering from her husbands cheating and Ben is a rock star who is part of a successful band. They meet up again when Ben decides he needs to get away from everything as he’s sick of life in the band and the fame it brings. Helen invites him to stay however her kids are brought back from there holiday early by there father so then it makes Ben’s secret harder to keep.
What I loved about this book as it was not your typical romance where the couple get together and live happily ever after. There is happiness and sadness in this book and tissues will be needed. The ending was a mixture of happiness and sadness. There was a plot in the book I did not see coming and that was sad but again it made this book different from your average romance where the couple meat and then go on to live happy ever after.
This was a really good read and if this authors other books are as good I’ll be revisiting for sure.

A very pleasant tale
Narration was good and I was keen to find out how the story panned out. Although one might have predicted the outcome, it had sufficient twists and turns to keep me interested. I will definitely listen to another Mike Gayle book.
