Summary

In A Rite of Swords (book 7 in the Sorcerer's Ring), Thor grapples with his legacy, battling to come to terms with who his father is, whether to reveal his secret, and what action he must take. Back home in the Ring, with Mycoples by his side and the Destiny Sword in hand, Thor is determined to wreak vengeance on Andronicus' army and liberate his homeland - and to finally propose to Gwendolyn. But he comes to learn that there are forces even greater than he that might just stand in his way.

Gwendolyn returns and strives to become the ruler she is destined to be, using her wisdom to unite the disparate forces and drive out Andronicus for good. Reunited with Thor and her brothers, she is grateful for a lull in the violence and for the chance to celebrate their freedom. But things change quickly - too quickly - and before she knows it, her life is thrown upside down again. Her elder sister, Luanda, caught in a fierce rivalry with her, is determined to wrest power while King MacGil's brother arrives with his own army to gain control of the throne. With spies and assassins on all sides, Gwendolyn, embattled, learns that being queen is not as safe as she thought.

Reece's love with Selese finally has a chance to flourish, yet at the same time his old love appears, and he finds himself torn. But idle times are soon overcome by battle, and Reece, Elden, O'Connor, Conven, Kendrick, Erec, and even Godfrey must face and overcome adversity together if they are to survive. Their battles take them to all corners of the Ring, as it becomes a race against time to oust Andronicus and save themselves from complete destruction. As powerful, unexpected forces battle for control of the Ring, Gwen realizes she must do whatever it takes to find Argon and bring him back.

In a final, shocking twist, Thor learns that while his powers are supreme, he also has a hidden weakness - one that may just bring his final downfall.

Critic reviews

" The Sorcerer's Ring has all the ingredients for an instant success: plots, counterplots, mystery, valiant knights, and blossoming relationships replete with broken hearts, deception and betrayal. It will keep you entertained for hours, and will satisfy all ages. Recommended for the permanent library of all fantasy readers." ( Books and Movie Reviews, Roberto Mattos)

Stunned into depression

The relations commence to claw their way out of the wood work. There remains some fantastic cameos in this book but those new characters merely stretch a story line which could have finished in the previous book because he hasn't or doesn't accept his foresight and when an exact event arises he jeopardises not only himself but heart worshipping creatures like his leopard or dragon. e precursor the hero is becoming very predictable and one feels like he needs to be put in a brown paper bag and shuck up.

I thoroughly enjoyed the story line.

What made the experience of listening to A Rite of Swords the most enjoyable?

The narators acting

What other book might you compare A Rite of Swords to, and why?

The Inheritance Cycle by Christipher Poalini because the main characters both go on a journey to discover their futures and they both have magical abilities.

What about Wayne Farrell’s performance did you like?

The way in which he braught the characters alive in the book; I really got into the characters, felt sorry for them, angry for them and the fact Thore was fostered was indicative of my own past; very powerful.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes when Thore was captured by the Great Andronicus and he was unable to escape!

Any additional comments?

Sometimes I thought the book was a little cheesy, since when can animals really understand everything a human says; then again it is fantasy adventure!

Blah Blah Blah

So tired of sequel after sequel. Trilogies I can deal, but these that keep going on and on...hate it! I am done

kinda repetitive

these books should have been combined into either 1 long book or a trilogy. they are too short to warrant using a credit on 18 different books.

It just goes on and on and on

Seven books and almost zero resolutions. This series is obviously being stretched out for the sake of more books and by this point you just want it to end.

Also the narrator if awful. Why must you make a 16 year old girl sound like a retired old man that smokes 2 packs a day.

I’m embarrassed I went this far

No continuity on timeline or characters. Constant errors throughout. Constantly contradicts itself example first “dozen” can’t budge sword and takes 20 people to move sword, then a couple chapters later 4 can lift it up onto railing then next paragraph 7 can’t hold it from falling over edge. Group looks out over an endless dessert that goes to the edges of the earth, then few hours later they are across. One group makes a hard days ride gets injured and then rescued within a couple hours from same location. Also the authors use of a “dozen” apparently ranges from 2 to 30 or their basic math skills don’t work.

Greatness...Part 7

I can't get over it. It's amazing! I did notice this time that there are a lot of the same phrases that are used to explain scenarios. for example, "Thor felt stronger than he'd ever felt before..." after I think I heard it 2xs in the same battle I got to thinking...either word choice is not there...or this kid really is feeling averything for the first time!

won't stop me from reading it again next year!
