Lively audio version of this fun cosy mystery
I'd previously read this book when it was first released, and it was an excellent read. So it was good to hear the story once again in this audio version, having also listened to the first book in this way too.
The narration is perfect for the story, and very easy to listen to and enjoy.
The story itself is an insight into life in the village of Maiden upon Avon at midsummer. An exciting plot unfolds as the villagers prepare for the festival and the magical Shakespeare play of A Midsummer Night's Dream... though a strange sequence of events around a murder puts a spanner in the works!
Can Evelyn unravel the case? And so we are plunged once again into magic, revelry. romance, mystery and comedy with a wonderful description as the book unfolds.
I can really recommend this audio book version which adds yet another dimension to this already enjoyable story - I'm already looking forward to the next one!

A screaming good read
I am a big fan of this author and even though I had all ready read this book on kindle, I just had to add A Midsummer Fright's Scream to my audio book collection. I am so glad I did because it has lost non of itsw magic. This book didn't disappoint and was just as much fun as reading it, even knowing what was coming. The author packs a lot into her stories and with the magical element the mystery is certainty spell catching. The mystery was interesting and I liked the way Evelyn had a group of suspects right from the start but had to work out how how they seemed to be in two places at once and just when you thought you had figured it out boom you get hit with a big twist. As well as keeping you on your toes, guessing who the killer is, the author paints a very vivid picture with her words. This creates a beautiful and magical little village that is easy to imagine and despite the murders is a place you would want to visit. Another reason I loved the book was because of the characters themselves, who are just delightful and quirky enough that this series has risen to the top of my favourite list.
Evelyn thought the hardest thing she had to do was learn a few new magic spells and get her nephew to admit how he feels about her young waitress but then again it is coming up to midsummers night when anything can happen. The village is embracing the celebration by having there own celebrations including a Shakespearean play, a car show, music/dancing and games but before the festivities can get underway a car crashes into the cafe. The driver is found dead with a steak through his heart and clutching a silver bullet. He wasn't a vampire or a werewolf so why was these items involved? Could magic be the reason? The victim was a ladies man so there is going to be a lot of suspects including his best friend and his wife. With the most likely suspects having alibis and yet hidding secrets, police detective Alex asks for Evelyn's help with not getting the suspects to open up to her. Can she help solve the reason for the murder and how it was done? Can she also talk the moody policeman into letting his hair down, by putting on green tights to step into the roll of Puck, will the show go on? What about helping her nephew find love? The one thing she doesn't mind letting slip is the weekly magical council meetings but with Werewolves, Angels and witches on the board maybe they might prove the be helpful in solving a few things.
I like the narrator. She puts in an entertaining performance that works its own magic on the listener.

Midsummer murder... and magic!
After listening to the first story in this series on Audible last year, I was so pleased to revisit this next book in audio form too.
In this book, the village might be basking in the mellowness midsummer, but soon finds itself under the dark cloud of another murder - and this time it's bit closer to home for Evie, as the victim crashes their car into her café under rather strange circumstances. But I won't add any more than that - you'll have to listen for yourself!
We get all our favourite characters from the first book back, and Evie is soon assisting DI Alex Taylor (or getting in the way, as he'd probably put it!) in her latest puzzling whodunnit investigation.
There's some wonderfully descriptive scenes too at the village fair, and I loved all the touches that brought this to life and created an authentic midsummer atmosphere. There's a touch of romance too, and all the humour and crazy village residents that made the first book so much fun - not to mention a touch of Shakespeare into the mix too.
This was a very enjoyable listen, and once again I had no idea who the murderer was until the end - where you'll find there's even a delightful twist, and one that really took me by surprise.
Stevie's narration once again is entertaining and very pleasing on the ear as she brings the various characters to life beautifully. Would def recommend taking a listen, especially if you enjoyed book 1.
