Summary

Home, sweet home…

Joy Cartier has been to some of the most beautiful places in the world – but none of them have ever felt like home. So moving into a tiny cottage in the idyllic village of Bramble Hill, walking distance from her childhood home, seems like the perfect plan.

That is, until she gets there. The surly inhabitants of Britain’s Friendliest Village are anything but welcoming. Even her neighbour, reclusive Hollywood star Finn Mackenzie, takes one look at her and walks in the other direction.

But when the village animosity steps up a gear, it is the infuriatingly brooding Finn who keeps coming to her rescue. Slowly Joy begins to realise that maybe a happy home isn’t about where you live, but who you’re with…

Loved it….great story

Really enjoy this book, I loved how the story between Joy and Finn develops, and how the supporting characters add to this great story. This is the second book by Holly Martin I’ve listened to and they are both excellent, cannot wait to listen to another, would recommend this book to all, it’s a great love story with laugh out loud moments

A lovely book but not socially conscious

I loved the story and the way it had me wanting to carry on listening. One thing bothered me and that was the promotion of releasing balloons to loved ones. Holly, please consider what message this sends. It’s very destructive to the environment and animals can choke on them. It’s unnecessary to be honest. That’s just my feedback.

Very slow

Compared to the other Holly Martin book live listened to this one was the only one I’ve struggled with, what started out as a slow can’t get into book that I had to start twice became another great book, just going to search for the next one!!!!!

More than just a romance story!

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this and it definitely had some darker elements to it with the way Joy was treated by the other villagers. It made for a really interesting listen and ultimately the love story won me over! The narration was excellent too. Would 100% recommend!

Disappointing

I have loved allHolly Martin’s light hearted and joyful stories until this one. Parts of the plot really did stretch one’s credulity, and was rather different in tone to previous books. For all that the story romped along at a good pace, it was just a shame about the poor narration- almost put me off carrying on listening.

The most grating, implausible voices of any audio - the love-interest sounds like a strangulated angry loudly whispering wolf

I’ve listened to at least three of Holly Martin’s books and whilst one needs to enter in to the spirit of considerable implausibility and necessary plot delays to draw out the lovely inevitability of happy endings. That spirit entered in to one knows one will be entertained and enjoy the journey of a light frothy yet still substantive sensitive romance - decent doses of passion and escapism.

This is true of of this audio too but the narrator’s accent for the love interest of the protagonist with the most grating mockney accent sounded like someone given the instruction to channel whatever they thought a strangulated, scornful wolf speaking in a loud angry whisper would sound like. It was so off-putting it became unbearable and I couldn’t finish.

So sad when a narrator utterly ruins an author’s work.
