Summary
When English tearoom owner, Gemma Rose, finds herself on an unexpected trip to Scotland, she is delighted by the chance to stay in a beautiful Scottish castle—complete with mounted stag heads, cosy fireplaces, and misty mountain views. She’s looking forward to a relaxing weekend in the Highlands, sampling traditional Scottish baking, trying her hand at fly fishing, and learning to enjoy a “wee dram” of whisky.
But when she stumbles on a dead body in the castle library, Gemma quickly becomes steeped in a country-house murder with a distinctly tartan feel! Luckily, the nosy “Old Biddies” are on hand to help with the sleuthing, and even her cheeky tabby cat, Muesli, is keen to lend a paw. But with a castle full of quirky guests, the list of suspects is long, and everyone has something to hide. Can Gemma untangle the web of lies and motives, and reel in the killer before it’s too late?
Filled with humour, suspense, and unexpected twists, A High Whisk Situation is a delightful listen for fans of cozy mysteries and traditional English whodunits. So put the kettle on, grab a scone (or a shortbread, we won't judge), and get ready for a hilarious, entertaining adventure in the Scottish Highlands.

Fun
A light hearted murder in a Scottish castle. Even my own cats enjoyed it, answering cheeky Museli's vocals!

Running out of steam.
If you wish to buy a cookbook better go for Delia Smith, Mary Berry and the like. This book is padded (or pudding-ed?) with long obsequious descriptions of food, the ingredients and how to cook it, masking a very mundane plot -- the perpetrator being obvious from the onset. The characters have lacked their early lustre and even Ms Hewitt's narration seems to reflect a general disinterest in entire proceedings; I won't be reading this series any longer.

Come on Gemma!
I love this series and the characters, but I am starting to grow increasingly frustrated with Gemma, and her inability to stand up for herself and being walked over by her supposed best friend who almost destroyed her business in the previous book, being a loud mouth to a journalist, and supposed love of her life who she disregards almost costing him his job, but also lets say and and do the most disrespectful things. In regards to these relationships and in utter contrast to that she has with her mother, its incredibly unrealistic and unfulfilling that she doesn't stand up for herself and is constantly submissively reactive to these characters. I was thrilled at the prospect of a new love interest - but alas!
Loved the new scenery! Loved the story line, although the other characters got lost at the end. Looking forward to the next story, and here's hoping Gemma takes better care of her cat next time, and maybe buys a harness and leash?

Cosy & soothing!
I discovered Audible during lockdown, & quickly realised that cosy detective novels were my thing in my 50s, so it's lovely to have another writer on my list! I also have my 84 year old mum hooked, albeit via paperbacks, as she isn't smartphone savvy. She's missing out, as Pearl Hewitt is a fabulous narrator. If like me, you use Audible novels to wind down at bedtime, & fall asleep to them, then this series is perfect! Yes, it's formulaic, but that's half the fun. HY Hannah knows her cosy detective genre audience, writes her novels well , & has got the perfect voice actor in Pearl Hewitt!

It's a cute book
It's a tame story. I like it when the old biddies are involved, even though I find that an offensive title for them. And, luckily for me, they were included in this story but nowhere near enough.
The story was ok, usual formula. The cat was included too, even though taking the cat away on trips is really not something most people would do.
It certainly was not one of my favourites but it was good easy listening.

Another fabulous read
I have read all the Oxford tearoom collection and thought I would listen to this one. I have not been disappointed! Pearl Hewitt has the most delightful voice and a brilliant ability to reproduce accents! A real treat. The story took us to Scotland in the Highlands and was special for me as this is a place I have been many times and is my little paradise on earth.
Thank you H.Y. Hanna for a captivating story. My sleuth talents were put to shame as I missed to find who the culprit was and realised or suspected very late in the story. Please keep writing about Emma and the biddies! Great fun and escapism!

H. Y. Hanna has done better
I was enjoying this book right up until Gemma Rose started falsely accusing people of murder & then thought she was right, specially when she intimidated the young, fragile harpist. This part seemed rather bullying specially as miss rose is NOT a detective!
Then with she continued about having proof, from someone else about a shadow, this is summarising not proof.
She's better off having someone to discuss the case with instead of going half-cocked on her own, making wrong assumptions, then just wildly accusing & getting it wrong!
Normally Gemma is gentle, friendly not harsh or brash, didn't like this side of her!
I would've loved to hear more about Scotland. I'm Scottish & absolutely love the place, did feel their was lots of depth about history & surroundings missing from this story. Scotland has a lot of history about ghosts etc & secret passages in castles, feuds, fights, highland games, big festivals all part of its history.
Did like Ewan though, thought he was lovely.
Of all the books, I loved the magical chocolate books best with uncle viktor the vampire, please can we have more of them.

Not as good as previous books. Disappointing.
I have listened to every book in this series. There appears to have been a big time gap between this book and the previous one; I was looking forward to it. But the narrator wasn't as good as usual. She seemed to get muddled with the voices of the various characters. The basic plot was ok with a few red herrings but it was pretty obvious who the murderer was going to be. The Old biddies only had a cameo role; in fact they weren't really needed. The relationships between the characters was weak. Only Muesli and the incessant, annoying deep breaths and eye rolling remained from earlier books.

An entertaining series
A charming mystery set in Scotland and in a library! A perfect pairing. I loved that Gemma gets to travel a little further afield in this book, but a murder in a library was the icing on the cake. Add a dollop of humour, a fabulous cast of characters, and a mystery to keep you guessing giving you a guaranteed entertaining few hours of listening. The narrator as always does a great job.
