Summary
A rampaging force of nature is wreaking havoc on the streets of Edinburgh, but has top shagger, drug dealer, gonzo-porn star and taxi driver ‘Juice’ Terry Lawson finally met his match in Hurricane ‘Bawbag’?Can Terry discover the fate of the missing beauty, Jinty Magdalen, and keep her idiot-savant lover, the man-child Wee Jonty, out of prison?
Will he find out the real motives of unscrupulous American businessman and reality-TV star Ronald Checker? And, crucially, will Terry be able to negotiate life after a terrible event robs him of his sexual virility, and can a new fascination for the game of golf help him to live without...a decent ride?
A Decent Ride sees Irvine Welsh back on home turf, leaving us in the capable hands of one of his most compelling and popular characters, ‘Juice’ Terry Lawson, and introducing another bound for cult status, Wee Jonty MacKay: a man with the genitals and brain of a donkey. In his funniest, filthiest book yet, Irvine Welsh celebrates an unreconstructed misogynist hustler - a central character who is shameless but also, oddly, decent - and finds new ways of making wild comedy out of fantastically dark material, taking on some of the last taboos. So fasten your seatbelts, because this is one ride that could certainly get a little bumpy....

Very disappointing
This book tries to rely on its "shock humour" to make it work. But sadly it fails to deliver. It's poorly written, unfunny and overly long.
I stuck with it as I don't like giving up on a book. But it was a real struggle to get to the end.
Very disappointed that this is the best Irvine Welsh can come up with these days.

Great listen. The local dialect is spot on
Great audio book. Tam Dean Burn brings all thr characters to life. Although i think he needs to work on his American accent. All in all though i strongly recommend.

Classic Welsh!
Juice Terry returns for more dark comic capers. Anyone familiar with Welsh's other works will know what to expect as this character (from Glue and Porno fame) takes centre stage in this farfetched but entertaining adventure. As usual, Welsh's narrative style means no topic is off-limits but despite the somewhat base and unbelievable extremes that permeate this story, lies a character grounded in the familiar patter and surroundings that many growing up in central Scotland will recognise. This connection for me was one of the main reasons I enjoyed the book so much. Welsh simply and expertly captures the working class swagger and darkness just below the shortbread tin, castle and ‘See You Jimmy Hat’ Scottish stereotype. This authentic characterisation is similarly captured in Tam Dean Burn’s performance.
Fans of Welsh or those with a lived experience of central Scotland will especially enjoy this book.

Unbelievable Performance.....Guaranteed!
Would you consider the audio edition of A Decent Ride to be better than the print version?
Though already a fan of audio, this performance took the medium into a different stratosphere. So much emotion, humour and pathos - genuinely and truly enhanced the experience.

I've no real audio comparisons but very much in the mould of other Welsh works...bit more accessible though

A heartwarming tale of perverseverance...
First off the bat I have to make it clear that the performance of this book is ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! If I was not for the spot on accents and characterization of the reader this book would not have been half as entertaining. I imagine that there is no other way to experience the story. I would endorse you to get into juice Terry's cab and get a decent ride!
