Summary
Azzy Williams is ready. Ready to smoke, pop pills, drink wine and ready to fight. But most of all, he’s ready to do anything for his friends, his gang, his young team.
Round here, in the schemes of the forgotten industrial heartland of Scotland, your mates, your young team - they’re everything.
Azzy Williams is 14; a rising star, this is his life, and he loves it.
Azzy Williams is 17; he’s out of control.
Azzy Williams is 21; he’d like to leave it all behind.
But a way out isn’t easy to find....
Inspired by the experiences of its author, The Young Team is an energetic novel, full of the loyalty, laughs, mischief, boredom, violence and threat of life on these streets. It looks beyond the tabloid stereotypes to tell a powerful story about the realities of life for young people in Britain today.

A Raw and relatable story
A great story of real life for many in Scotland. Being from Glasgow myself, I found it brought back memories of growing up in a council estate in the 90s.
Well narrated and very different from the norm but I loved it. I couldn’t stop listening.
Well done to the author for making choices that would give him a brighter future and teach others that they too can do the same. 👍🏻

Sublime, tough, deep and true.
The young team is a journey of a ned, I grew up knowing and watching these guys . Track suits and bucky, pills and grass....and Gangs.....It wasn't my path but I know many who lived and died on that road. This book is perfect it gets it spot on the language, the fight not just on a Friday full of it but the fight to get out, to escape but that won't be for all. Its sublime I'm sad it had to end listen to it without judgement, listen to a life lived by many well done graeme on a wonderful story ya bas........

Brutal but brilliant book.
A tough listen at times, with the harsh reality of life, but well written and crafted throughout. One of the best books I’ve listened to. Couldn’t recommend it more.

Fantastic book, Great story
written brilliantly, with well detailed characters.
This book is a literary roller coaster, you are on this wild ride and no way are you getting off.
The central character Azzie is complex and the author shows his every side, his deeds and misdeeds are described in such exquisite detail. You feel the raw emotion of Azzie and his friends, their lives away from the gang and the realisation of their problems.
The violence is described perfectly, in the way real street violence happens, fast and hard.
My favourite character is the Headteacher, so beautifully crafted and an accurate depiction of the no nonsense man, with a heart of gold.
I listened to this amazing story in two sittings and loved every single minute of it... more please Mr Armstrong, your book is pure class.

Gripping from the first line
A very powerful important book about growing of age in a tough part of Glasgow. The narrator is also the writer and the dialogue is fantastic, even though I am from Glasgow I know I missed a lot. A modern day Trainspotting. Highly recommended on all fronts.
